The relocation and opening of the U.S. embassy in Israel to Jerusalem has led to major clashes between the Palestinian people and the Israeli military just recently.
The film is set in the Gaza Strip in Israel, where such tensions have existed for many years. However, it is refreshing that the film depicts the conflict from a different angle from so-called conflict films.
~STORY~.
Gaza, Palestinian territories. Christine's beauty salon is bustling with female customers.
Christine, the owner, is an immigrant from Russia. Widat, a beauty salon assistant, is struggling with her boyfriend, Ahmad, a member of the mafia. Efitikar, who is in divorce settlement due to her husband's infidelity, is preparing to meet her lawyer. Safia, whose husband is a soldier wounded in war, is an addict who regularly uses drugs prescribed by her husband. Zeinab, a devout Muslim, has never had her hair cut and never takes off her hijab, even in the women-only beauty salon. Salma, whose wedding is tonight, Fatima, a pregnant woman in her last month of pregnancy, Wafa, who suffers from severe asthma, and Sawsan, who is divorced... all of them are unique women with their own circumstances.
As they were enjoying a four-way conversation in the only women-only resting place in the midst of war, a gunshot rang out across the street, and the beauty parlor was left in a blaze of carnage and destruction....
The setting is a beauty parlor in Gaza where all the customers are women, and the film is very skillful in its technique of highlighting the war by depicting the women rather than the men.
Prior to the release of the film, 10 pairs of 20 people will be invited to a preview screening with a talk event to be held at "UPLINK Shibuya" on June 11 (Mon.).
