For ten long years.CÉLINEPhoebe Philo, the creative director of the company, will retire at the end of this pre-fall collection. The tote bags and wallets presented here are part of a strong collection.
The "Made in Tote Textile" is boldly adorned with the signature "CÉLINE PARIS MADE IN ITALY" familiar from the iconic "Hippo" tote. As the name "Origami Pleats" suggests, the gussets are constructed like origami, and the supple canvas body is trimmed in calf leather.
Another model incorporating "Origami Pleats" is the Celine Patchwork Textile & Leather. The bold optical pattern is based on the initial letter "C". Each piece is individually sewn by artisans.
And the bi-colored "drummed calfskin" wallet, which has become an iconic model along with the "Hippo". There is a zip-around type and a flap type with a snap button.
The design approach that presented a new way of being a woman, of not being beholden to anyone, was cultishly popular across gender lines, and this stance has remained unchanged throughout the years. I would like to carry it not as a nostalgia or a farewell, but as an embodiment of my own identity.
