Johannes Böttge had this to say about "Reaperland": . (omitted).

Reaperland is a term I coined meaning "land of the reaper." . . The phrase came to me because of the connection between myself as a photographer and the idea of collecting photographs on the theme of something dying. . I see a clear similarity between the artistry of photography and the theme of "death".

The photos were taken during my travels around the American South in the fall of 2017, motivated by the strange political climate and my own personal aesthetic, I was looking for corruption and enigmatic images. For me, this project is like connecting the dots to a spirituality that cannot be explained scientifically.

Is it that the photographs are not of spectacular landscapes or portraits of people, where the message is out in the open, but that they capture a deeper, more inward, unexplainable image? The answer probably depends on how the viewer feels, but the exhibition is worth a look for its hooks that search for what Johannes Böttge wanted to convey!
