Do you know about the collaboration between SEIKO and Giugiaro Design that was launched in 1983 as a "wristwatch for drivers"? The revolutionary design tilted the digital display to the right in relation to the front of the case so that the driver could easily check the time when he or she gripped the steering wheel. The futuristic look attracted a lot of attention at the time.
Giugiaro Design was founded by Italian industrial designer Giorgetto Giugiaro, and more than 40 years later, the company is still designing cars and a wide range of other products.
To commemorate the 35th anniversary of this watch, a reissue model will be released on November 23 (Friday) in a limited edition of 3,000 pieces. The watch features a design that has been reproduced as faithfully as possible. The bezel can be rotated to switch between alarm, timer, and stopwatch functions, not to mention the slanted display.
On the other hand, there are some new features. The bracelet is now made of solid stainless steel, and the display has an EL backlight. In addition, the serial number is engraved on the back of the watch.
In addition to the regular models above, six collaborative models with select stores are also available. These are limited to 500 pieces each and will be available from early to mid-December.
