Although he has produced a number of elaborate works, this is surprisingly the first time he has released a photo book. The book, "hemoglobin," focuses on iron, which is deeply related to his own roots.
This collection of photographs is composed by the contrast between two types of steel still lifes, heavy machinery and swords. As a young boy, Komiyama was attracted to the object of "heavy machinery," and he has often used this motif in his works since he became an adult. His family before his great-grandfather forged Japanese swords as a swordsmith and has been involved with iron for generations, so the still life of "iron" is deeply connected to his own roots, and it seems that he arrived at this photo collection quite naturally.
