Firmly established on the streetXLARGE®" [XLARGE®].and an artist with a passionate fan base both at home and abroad.base of a mountaincollaboration. For more information, please see the previousNews featured in HuinamuHere is a report on the "XLARGE x HAJIME SORAYAMA RECEPTION PARTY" held at "XLARGE HARAJUKU" on November 18, 2012.
Founded by two architects with a deep knowledge of art, "Extra Large" has collaborated with many artists. For Extra Large, which has always presented a fusion of the street and art, art is one of its important philosophies that cannot be separated from it. The appointment of Mr. Sorayama this time was based on the idea of selecting an artist who is uniquely Japanese and who can also communicate his work to the world. The "OG Gorilla" from "Extra Large" and Mr. Sorayama's spacy illustration. This may seem like an unexpected combination, but once you see the finished product, you will be convinced. It was a stimulating collaboration that brought out the best in both artists.
In addition to the original drawings by Motoi Sorayama for "Extra Large," rough sketches that are not usually exhibited publicly were on display at the reception. A wide range of people, from street kids to art freaks, young and old, came to the event.
The iconic "OG Gorilla" of "Extra Large" is also in Mr. Sorayama's hands, as you can see. The "Sorayama OG" robot, which retains the gorilla's silhouette but has been rearranged into a robot, is the result of an arrangement that is instantly recognizable as Mr. Sorayama's own, and is the best part of the collaboration. The middle finger is just for fun.
The "Sexy Robot," one of Mr. Sorayama's best-known works, is dressed in an "Extra Large" camisole. The pink camisole she wears reflects off the robot's skin, and the detailed writing is also noteworthy. The contrast between the hard texture of the robot and the soft texture of the clothing is beautiful.
This is a rare rough sketch of "Sorayama OG". The middle finger is oriented in a way that is satisfactory to the artist. It is a good opportunity to see the process of trial and error until completion.
The collaboration includes apparel such as coach jackets, sweatshirts, and T-shirts, as well as accessories such as i-phone cases and mugs. Wearing Sorayama's artwork and incorporating it into one's daily life is the goal of this collaboration. The aim of this collaborative project is to make art an accessible part of our daily lives. In addition to the 90's revival that has been gaining momentum recently, keywords such as spacy and retro-futuristic are currently attracting attention in New York. In light of these trends, I think the collaboration with Mr. Sorayama was just in time," says Mr. Yamada of the press department of "Extra Large.
Special label bottled beer prepared at the reception venue. A great service for fans.
Mr. Sorayama finally arrived at the venue amidst the crowd. He is of course wearing the coach jacket that we collaborated with him on this event. On the back of the jacket is a cute illustration by Mr. Sorayama himself.
The main event of the day, an autograph session by Mr. Sorayama, was held exclusively on the day of the reception for those who purchased the collaboration items. As soon as Mr. Sorayama sat down, a long line of people lined up to get his autograph. Mr. Sorayama enjoyed talking with his fans and treated each one of them politely. He signed a specially prepared poster on the spot.
The message above his signature reads, "May the FORCE be with you & Trump! We couldn't help but grin at the black jokes that Sorayama likes to include in his seasonal topics. It was a good memory.
The reception party was a great success. Extra Large" will continue to actively engage in activities that make art accessible to the public. We are glad to hear that this kind of activity is a good opportunity for people to become interested in art. With a collaboration with Yayoi Kusama coming up next year, we can't take our eyes off these activities. We at Huinam will continue to keep an eye on their activities.
