Do you know Miyagiftoshi?
He is a contemporary artist who has participated in the "Aichi Triennale 2016" and the "Roppongi Crossing 2016: My Body, Your Voice" contemporary art exhibition at the Mori Art Museum. In the past, during his stay in the U.S., he also worked at Printed Matter, Inc, an art book & zine specialty store in New York City.
Somehow, Miyagi's work, which makes full use of video and photographs, evokes a sense of narrative that makes the viewer stop in front of it and think about the story it tells. It is somehow a step ahead of the instant photos on Instagram...I feel.
A talk event featuring Miyagiftoshi, who has such a style, will be held at VACANT in Harajuku on Sunday, November 26, from 3:00 p.m. The theme of the event will be "Memories of Aging and Old Things. The theme of the event will be "memories of aging and old things," and Futoshi Hoshino and Toshiyuki Horie will appear as guests.

. The following is Mr. Miyagi's monologue on the occasion of the event.
After Mr. Futoshi Hoshino ("11 Years of Tillmans (and Us)") and myself (Miyagiftoshi) ("Instrument for Aging") each wrote a review of the exhibition "Your Body is Yours" by Wolfgang Tillmans in the November 2015 issue of Bijutsu Techo magazine, we started talking with Mr. Hoshino about aging and aging. The impetus for this project came when we started talking about aging and aging with Mr. Hoshino.
. Since then, I have personally been thinking a lot about sexual minority artists and "aging" or "aging" and about artists such as Felix Gonzalez-Torres and others, people who have died without having aged. Memories fading from the old and stories rising up against them, such as the photographs of torn soldiers in "The Ocean View Resort (2013)," have also become important elements in my work.
Toshiyuki Horie, author of "Sono no Shikata no Keshikata" ("How to Erase That Figure"), in which a poet's story emerges from an old postcard found at a secondhand market, and "Yukinuma to Sono Surroundings," a story of aging characters living in a small provincial town, will be another guest to talk about aging and memory. I will also give a brief presentation at the beginning of the talk on the works of Felix Gonzalez-Torres and their influence on me."
No matter how perceptive an artist may be, as one ages, one's sensibilities will inevitably become duller. But aging is not only a negative thing. What effect does aging have on artists? Futoshi Hoshino
Born in 1983 . Aesthetics , Representational Culture. D. from the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, the University of Tokyo. Currently a lecturer at Kanazawa College of Art. He has co-edited The Sublime and the Uncanny (UTCP, 2016), and his books on contemporary art include Yuki Okumura--Jun Yang (Aesthetics Publishing, 2013), Contemporary Art Theory (co-authored, Ios Art Books, 2013), and "Curation Today" (co-author, Film Art, 2015).
Toshiyuki Horie
Born in Gifu Prefecture, 1964 . Writer and French literature scholar . Professor at the School of Cultural Planning, Waseda University. Author of "To the Suburbs" (Hakusuisha), "Oparaban" (Seidosha), "The Bear's Paving Stone" (Kodansha), "Yukinuma and Its Surroundings," "Kawagishi Ouhikkasho," "Sono no Shikkaku" (Shinchosha), "Sine Curve" (Chuokoron Shinsha), and translator of Hervé Guibert's "Imagine the Vision" (Shueisha) and Robert Doisneau . "With an Imperfect Lens" (Gekkosha), among others.
stonewort (esp. Braun's stonewort, Chara braunii)
. Born in 1981 in Okinawa, Japan. Artist. Based on his own experiences and memories in Okinawa, the U.S., and Tokyo, he weaves together photographs, videos, objects, texts, and other media on the subjects of nationality, race, and identity. He also contributes to literary magazines and other art media. He is currently participating in the exhibition "Spider's Thread" at Toyota Municipal Museum of Art, ( through December 25, ).
Kenichi Eguchi
