Moonlight" won three Academy Awards, including Best Picture, beating out "La La Land" and other films. In response to this award, the release date of "Moonlight" has been moved up from the original schedule, and the film will be released nationwide on March 31 (Friday).
~STORY~.
Her name is Sharon and her nickname is Little. Sharon is shy, teased as a "fag" at school, and targeted by bullies. Sharon doesn't even know what the word "gay" means, and her classmate Kevin is her only friend. One night on a moonlit beach, Sharon and Kevin touch each other's hearts for the first time...
The film depicts the main character in three different periods: childhood, adolescence, and young adulthood. In particular, he is bullied by his classmates and abused by his drug-addicted mother in his childhood and adolescence, while his interactions with the drug dealer and his only friend Kevin in his childhood and his heart-to-heart with Kevin in his adolescence are very heartwarming scenes. The scene in which he and Kevin have a heart-to-heart talk as a boy is very heartwarming.
The most memorable lines were the drug dealer's line, "You have to decide your own path," and the protagonist's repetitive line, "You don't even know me! and "You don't even know me!
Society and the people around us (and sometimes even ourselves) try to reassure us by labeling and categorizing people in some way. They wildly ignore the subtle differences...but never the slightest difference to the person in question. When such situations accumulate, it is very difficult to present oneself differently from the mainstream of society, and sometimes it must feel like fear. I felt that the former line gives us the courage to stand up to such invisible violence, and the latter line is a cry from the hearts of the people involved. This is exactly the kind of thing that is depicted in the current era.
In addition to the highly acclaimed delicate, colorful, and poetic images, the film also features outstanding performances by Mahershala Ali, who won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of a drug dealer, and Naomi Harris, who plays his junkie mother, as well as excellent camera work that keeps a sense of urgency constantly on the screen.
Incidentally, the name of Brad Pitt is the executive producer of this film. Brad Pitt is well-known in the film industry for his producing skills, as he has been named as a producer for "Still the Night" (Best Picture Oscar winner) and "Money Short" (Best Picture Oscar nominee). The significance and appeal of this film can be seen from this point of view.
Please enjoy the beauty of these images in a movie theater.
