Materia 2016."
The exhibition title is "Memory of the Forest.
Below are comments from the gallery.
Encountering the word "Materia," meaning "life-giving power," photographer Yoshihiko Ueda's 30-year confrontation with the source of life begins. We, too, are led on an unanswerable journey through the universal memories and energies that transcend time, era, and race, as reflected through Ueda's eyes. There is no need for words. Only what we feel is the truth.
This exhibition will feature approximately 30 works by Yoshihiko Ueda, including his trilogy of "QUINAULT," "Materia," and "M.River," which began in 1989 when he began photographing forests in the U.S. and led to the forests of Yakushima Island, as well as new works.

And here are Mr. Ueda's own words.
It has been 30 years since I began photographing the forests of Quinault, and I have been trying to capture the essence of life, starting with the forests of Yakushima. Wandering through the forest carrying a large camera, I named my work "Materia" so as not to lose sight of the photographic image that gradually began to emerge. The outline of the photograph, which until then had been foggy and blurred, became clear. This earth has the power to give birth to life, the great source of life. Ancient people discovered the principles of this world over a long period of time, and they used words to tell their stories. Photography, likewise, longs to reveal the principles of how the world came to be.
M.River No. 3, 2012
For 30 years, he has been photographing the various faces of the forest. This is a valuable exhibition that traces the trajectory of his work. It will be well worth it to savor the gallery space. Please check it out.
