Borderless. Global. Diversity. These are concepts that seem to have permeated Japan, but no other group embodies them as well as they do.
Based in Brooklyn, New YorkBrown Rice Familyis a multi-national band with members hailing from Haiti, Jamaica, Japan, South Africa, Nigeria, and the United States. Their sound, derived from one jam session at a time, exquisitely reflects the individual personalities of each member and is superb entertainment.
The sound is a happy and peaceful one, combining reggae, ska, latin, hip-hop, and other rich roots music. It is truly "world roots music.
Brown rice is brown rice. The band's unique name is derived from its deep resonance with ( () = living food), which is an integral part of the lives of "Rasta" people in Jamaica. Unlike white rice, brown rice is a living food, and the band hopes to provide a "lively sound that the body naturally desires" like brown rice.
Technical and strong performance of twin vocals. Lyrical and loose reggae rhythms. The strong message of "healthy lifestyle," "world peace," and "global solidarity" carried in the colorful sound. and "global solidarity. Each member of the band has a strong personality and stage presence. The band's unparalleled sound is full of power to transcend boundaries and captivate audiences.
In 2012, the band participated in the finals of "The Battle of the Boroughs," a band competition hosted by the popular New York City radio station WNYC, and was crowned the best band in New York City. In the spring of 2015, the band will collaborate with the "Carnegie Hall Professional Development Series," a program sponsored by Carnegie Hall, a music hall of fame located in New York City. This is a perfect role for them to sing a message to the future of the earth and its children, encouraging the rehabilitation of youth in juvenile detention centers and leading them to a brighter future through the approach of music.
They will be making their third tour of Japan, starting with a Tokyo show on August 6 (Sat), followed by shows in Osaka and Nagoya.
