CAMPUS inspired STAN SMITH⁉︎ A classic and pieceful collaboration between adidas Originals and Nigel Graf.

adidas Originals' "adidas ENERGY" project reimagines the brand's heritage models for the next generation. As part of the project, a special initiative "TOKYO ENERGY" focusing on the key city of Tokyo has been launched this season.

This project incorporates Tokyo's unique culture and trends into adidas Originals products. The first product to be introduced is the "STAN SMITH NAIJEL GRAPH," a team-up with artist Nigel Graff, who also made a splash with his collaboration project with the movie "E.T.".

Adidas' 70th Anniversary ExhibitionThis collaboration was made possible by his involvement with the "STAN SMITH" brand. The lineup includes three colors of "STAN SMITH" with Nigel's specialties scattered under the theme of "MAKE BLOOM IN HEART".

Congratulations on your collaboration with "adidas Originals," of which you have been a fan for some time! You have worked with adidas Originals in the past, but is this the first time you have collaborated with them on a product?

Thank you very much. This is the first time we are working together to create a product for the general public.

How did you feel when you received the offer?

Anyway, I was happy. I really don't know what else to say but that I'm happy. I have been wearing Adidas shoes since I was an adolescent until today, so I am honored to be able to release a product with my favorite brand in this way.

What brought you into contact with adidas?

I was influenced by the American hip-hop group, the Beastie Boys. Their favorite shoes were the "CAMPUS" by Adidas.

Besides his own music, Beastie was an artist who strongly communicated a social message through his support for Tibet and concerts for victims of terrorism. I became hooked on "CAMPUS" shoes because they were worn by such respected people. Personally, I am most attached to "adidas" shoes.

Q: Then why did you choose "STAN SMITH" as the base model for this project?

Actually, I was very torn. I wanted to throw away the classic "CAMPUS," but I also liked the light and comfortable feel of "STAN SMITH. Then I thought it would be interesting to make "STAN SMITH" look like "CAMPUS.

I see. So that's why the upper is suede.

That's right. We gave adidas a lot of latitude, but I think we were able to come up with an innovative approach to "STAN SMITH. The color scheme of each model is great, too: two colors are used, but the materials and the unique "STAN SMITH" silhouette make the design soft and easy to match.

What exactly is the theme reflected in the music?

First is the shoe tongue. The olive flower, a symbol of peace, is depicted. The "MBIH," which stands for "MAKE BLOOM IN HEART," is designed on the inside of the midsole. The basic "STAN SMITH" look is maintained while the peaceful message is accentuated.

Lastly, what are your expectations for this collaborative shoe?

STAN SMITH NAIJEL GRAPH" is a shoe created with the meaning of peace for the current world situation. No matter how negative the situation in the world may be, there is no need to feel down about it yourself. What is needed is a positive mindset. That is why I hope that as many people as possible who have these shoes in their hands will feel positive.
