Lies" is a word often used in a negative context, but it can also be an inspirational word for oneself, a source of unfounded confidence, or a desperate means of countering reality.
By telling positive lies to ourselves and being honestly deceived, we can continue to dream. Deceiving" is never evil, but sometimes synonymous with extending a helping hand. So says photographer Shun Omiyama.
Let us turn to the expression of photography. A photograph taken through personal senses is not the same as a view seen by another person in the same place. In other words, a photograph is a subjective expression, which may be a "lie" to a third party.
The "lie" that leads to his own present is now once again transformed into a "lie" that is valuable to a third party. The title of this exhibition, "Swindle = Deceit," expresses this idea.
In addition, a new technique was adopted for this exhibition, using T-shirts as canvases.
Printing is essential to enjoying the full appeal of a photograph, and holding it in one's hands makes the experience even more profound. So what if you could make the photograph a part of yourself? Wearing it on one's body can make the photographic experience even deeper and richer. This is his intention, along with his respect for the street culture that he himself has passed through.
LUCK'A Inc., which has been engaged in product direction for various artists, is in charge of the production and printing of the T-shirts. The printing technology they have cultivated and their inkjet printers, of which there are only a few in Japan, are fully utilized to produce surprisingly clear results.
Shun Omiyama freely captures space and tension-filled moments. We invite you to visit his photo exhibition, where he pursues his own expression without being bound by anything.
