Pierpaolo Piccioli, Creative Director of Valentino, was a well-known Hawaiian shirt fanatic. The name of the brand that captivated him was " SUN SURF. SUN SURF is a Hawaiian shirt brand that is the pride of Japan, and is well known to all who love the everlasting summer.
SUNSURF was launched in the 1970s. The owner, Toruichi Kobayashi, has collected thousands of shirts. The company claims to be a revival of the golden age of aloha shirts from the 1930s to the 1950s, but the quality of its creations easily surpasses that of other revivalists. The most outstanding feature is the dyeing process that recreates the textile printing techniques of the past. The vivid colors and deep shades are reminiscent of the Hawaiian shirts of that era.
A tag with both names.
Piccioli picked pineapples, volcanoes, surf riders, and hula girls from a number of archival motifs and incorporated them into cotton, polyester, and silk. The items are shirts and shorts. The Valentino logo is tucked into the overall pattern, and the subtle playfulness of the design is irresistible.
It has been more than 10 years since Piccioli took over as creative director. The Hawaiian shirts are aptly described as being "in the thick of the action.
