Founded in April 1940 in Kanda, Tokyo, "Araoka Eyeglasses" is an eyewear specialty store "AraokaBrink Gaienmae"Blink Baseand continues to promote modern eyewear.
To commemorate the 77th anniversary of their founding this year, they will release their original eyewear "Elder_ARAOKAGANKYO," featuring product design by Kimikazu Futamata.
The project started in April 2015 with the aim of developing an anniversary model with the auspicious number "77". The project started by unraveling the history of Hideyoshi Araoka, the founder of the company, and the "browline" design, which greatly supported the early sales of "Araoka Eyeglasses" and was a lifelong favorite of the founder, became the key word in the project.
The "browline" is a design source for eyebrows, which are part of the face, and is woven into the design of eyeglasses. There are various theories about its birth, but it is said to have originated in the late 1940s from a person who was troubled by thinning eyebrows and wanted to "add dignity" to his appearance. Today, it has become a standard design that gives the impression of "intelligence" and "intelligence.

Based on this background, Toshiyuki Araoka, the third president of the company, asked Kimikazu Futamata, a world-renowned spatial/product designer, to design the glasses, with a desire to "create an unprecedented brow line of glasses that would be a bridge to the future of glasses," while showing respect for the history and his predecessors. He was convinced that "Mr. Futamata could create a product that would not be affected by the changing times, while embodying an unknown formative beauty through eyeglasses.
Generally, the browline design is known as a combination of metal and acetate, but Mr. Futamata used only acetate and interpreted the browline with his own unique formative beauty. The high technology of Taniguchi Optical, an eyeglass factory in Sabae, Fukui Prefecture, was combined to create a model bearing the name "Elder" (Elder = "elder").
The glasses case that comes with the glasses is an update of the one that Hideyoshi, the founder of Araoka Eyeglasses, used to carry on his person, made of cowhide material. The inside of the case and the temples of the glasses are decorated with a logo design by Rikako Nagashima(village®), who is active in various genres based on graphic design.
Elder ARAOKAGANKYO" is the result of two years of work and the crystallization of a variety of thoughts and creativity into one. This is something that deserves our attention.
