Tom Sachs is a contemporary sculptor and artist who has made a name for himself with his style of incorporating contemporary icons into existing objects and creating them as new and different forms. His somewhat cynical work, in which a shopper design for a famous mason brand is converted into a set of wrappers for a certain fast food restaurant, caught my attention.
The Nike Craft Mars Yard Shoes, a sneaker created by Sachs and Nike, will be released in an updated version. These sneakers were originally created as a performance item for the "SPACE PROGRAM 2.0 : Mars Exhibition," an exhibition born from the deep exchange between Sachs and NASA researchers. Sachs spent more than five years researching the sneakers in order to improve the shortcomings that came to light after wearing them on a daily basis.

The Nike Craft Mars Yard Shoe 2.0 has been especially improved in terms of materials. For the upper material, tricot mesh is used instead of Vectran, which was used in the original. This material has higher breathability as well as strength. The outsole, which used a protruding pattern for walking on the surface of Mars, was placed with the unevenness reversed to make it applicable for urban wear. You can sense the construction pattern that Sachs excels at in this concept. Two types of insoles are included, one made of mesh and the other of cork, which is ideal for barefoot wear.
