An exhibition by Jen Shear, an artist who has attracted attention for her work at the "Midori-so" and Vinnie Smith, the artist who ran the gallery "Ladybug House" in San Francisco, which regrettably closed, is currently being held at the "Midori-so".
In addition to 13 new works by Jen and 7 new works by Vinny, two new T-shirts made especially for this exhibition and a collaborative zine released by "commune Press" in February of this year are also available for purchase at this exhibition.
This exhibition, the fourth collaborative production for Jen and Vinny, features collage works that focus on the properties and subjectivity of print. . Jen's works are made by cutting printed materials into small pieces and arranging them on charts and grid borders. They evoke the feeling of looking at a random Google image search or database of information without any identity. Nudes, anemone flowers, and words scribbled on the wall . . The indeterminate questions posed to the viewer through the works seem to be a bitter irony to this information society.
Vinney degrades the material by editing and photocopying the collected images, reducing their saturation and using them in his work. Color photographs lose their vibrancy and visually recede. Objects, shapes, and symbols stand out, and even collages that at first glance appear chaotic and unmeshing evoke a meditative effect. Some images survive, others decay. These works can be seen as experiments in images that find no value.
At a time when fragmented and false information is having a tremendous impact on us and the original truth is becoming blurred, please feel the messages of these two people who continue to search for ways to communicate what is true.
