With a solid love for art and an alternative and unique perspective, the gallery "Studio 35 Minutes" has hosted many memorable exhibitions.
We are pleased to announce the first solo exhibition in Japan of American skateboarder, actor, and photographer Jason Lee.
The versatile Jason Lee is one of the most iconic skateboarders of the 90s and is also known as an actor for his roles in "Those Days with Penny Lane" and "Vanilla Sky".
This exhibition will feature selected original prints from his two books "TX | CA 17" and "TX | CA 19" published by the London-based publishing house STANLEY/BARKER.
The series was filmed during a road trip from Texas, where Lee was living at the time, to Los Angeles, where he used to live, and the TX in the title stands for Texas and CA for California.
Lee was influenced by the "New Topographics" landscape photography movement in the U.S. in the 1970s, which means that instead of capturing the overwhelming and dramatic beauty of nature, he captures the ordinary American landscape from a flat, unaffected perspective.
The dry weather and climate are expressed in pleasant tones and colors, and the works beautifully depict scenes that could be described as "America in everyday clothes.
The exhibition will be divided into two phases, with "TX | CA 17" shot in black-and-white film in 2017 being exhibited in the first half, and "TX | CA 19" documenting the same road trip in color in 2019 in the second half.
We hope you will visit both exhibitions as they form a counterpart to each other.
