When we talk about OMEGA's trilogy, do you know which watches we are referring to? The first is the Speedmaster, a moon watch, the second is the Seamaster 300, for divers, and the last is the Railmaster.
The Railmaster was originally introduced in 1957 as a watch for railroad workers. The timepiece was not only robust, but also had an outstanding feature: its resistance to magnetic fields. While the magnetic resistance of watches at the time was at most 60 gauss, this timepiece could withstand up to 1,000 gauss. The reputation of this timepiece spread from blue-collar workers to white-collar workers.
A new version of such a watch has been in the works for quite some time. This new version is made of stainless steel.
Two types are available: one with a gray dial and the other with a beige dial with a discreet small seconds.
The most appealing feature of this watch is its elegant appearance. The dial, which follows the original model, has only the OMEGA logo and the word "Railmaster" in addition to the indexes. The case surrounding the dial is 38 mm in diameter.
Both are available with a leather strap that is sure to change with age, and a stainless steel bracelet that has been redesigned with new links for a smoother feel.
The Co-Axial Master Chronometer caliber 8806 (8804 for the model with small seconds) is a state-of-the-art movement. It boasts a high level of accuracy recognized by METAS, the Swiss Federal Office of Metrology and Accreditation.
And finally, the magnetic resistance of the latest model is 15,000 gauss. This is an overwhelming number, which is surprising because it is 15 times that of the first model.
Nearly 70 years after its debut, the Railmaster is returning to the stage with every aspect of the watch polished, and will be available in directly managed boutiques from Friday, May 16, followed by its release at authorized retailers.
