ものすごく快晴続きなG.Wを皆様、
如何、お過ごしですか？
ハラダはとりあえず、
他のサービス業の方々ともども、
黙々と仕事しております～（笑）☆
え～、今日はですね、
Kedｓ（ケッズ）の推定７０年代の、
デッドストックのスニーカーのご紹介です♪
アメリカの二大スニーカーメーカーと言えば、
「西のコンバース」と呼ばれる
1908年創業のコンバース・ラバー・シュー・カンパニーと、
「東のケッズ」と呼ばれる
1892年創業のUSラバーカンパニーを母体とする、
ケッズ・ブランドです♪
一応、ケッズのほうが、歴史が古いので、
現存するスニーカーブランドの中では、最も長い歴史を持つブランドってことになります。
All Sportと、なっているので、
バスケ、テニス、フットボール、野球ETC。。。対応ってことですね。
コンバースは、1917年に、
キャンバスオールスターを発売しましたが、
今日、ご紹介するケッズも、同じく、
1917年にゴム底テニスシューズのケッズ
を誕生させ、ケッズ・ブランドとしてデビューしました。
ケッズブランドの母体である、
1892年創業のUSラバー・カンパニーは、
それまで全米に19社存在していた、
ラバー関連企業の内16社が、
合併して設立された会社です。
その、USラバーカンパニーが、
ゴム底にコットンキャンバスを、
バルカナイズ製法（キャンバス地に圧着してくっつける製法）で、
作った靴が大ヒットし、
1917年にスニーカーブランドとして、
立ち上げたのが「Keds」（ケッズ） であります。
その中から生まれたケッズ・ブランドの、
Keds（ケッズ）と言うブランドネームは、
子ども（kids）と足（peds）という、
単語のの組み合わせから由来しています。
一般にSneaker(スニーカー）とは、
英語のSNEAK（忍び歩く）から由来していると言われていまして、
つまり元々は、ラバーソールのシューズのことなんですね。
1834年に、
チャールズ・グッドイヤーによって、
ゴム材料が発明され、靴底素材にゴムが使用されるようになり、
コンバースとケッズによって、
全く新たなゴム底のシューズが誕生しました、
それが今日のSneaker（スニーカー）な、わけです。
箱表には、
スタン・スミスや、ウィリス・リードなどなど、
名だたるスポーツ選手がプリントされているので、
後で、このブログのラストに元気が余っていたら、
彼らのことも、ちっとは説明しようかなぁ～？と思っておりますよん（笑）
ちなみに余談ですが、
ゴム・タイヤメーカーで有名な、
グッドイヤー・タイヤ・アンド・ラバー・カンパニーは、
彼の名前を冠しているだけで、
チャールズ・グッドイヤー本人や、
彼の一族には何も関係のない会社であります。
この↑↓
UNIROYALというマークはですね、
USラバーカンパニーのその後の会社の名前です。
１９６１年にUNIROYALと、
社名を変更したんですね。
ほんでもって、
その後、１９９０年には、この会社、
フランスのタイヤメーカー、
ミシュラン社に買収されてそのまま吸収されてしまったので、
ケッズの母体だったUSラバーカンパニーはもう存在しないのです。
ところで、ケッズ・ブランドの中で、
ケッズといえば、このスニーカーと、
多くの人が最初に思い浮かべるのは、
やはり、この↓デッキ・スニーカーの、
ありゃりゃ？なんかソフト・エッジ～になちゃいました。

ケッズのロングセラーの代表☆
「champion・Oxford」（チャンピオン・オックスフォード）じゃないでしょうか？
発売時のキャッチフレーズは、
「So Confortable ＆ Quiet You could 'Sneak` up on your Boy Friend.」
つまり、直訳すると、
（ボーイフレンドに気付かれずに忍び寄れるほど、快適で静かな）ってトコでしょうか？
（ちなみに、色違いも、今、店頭にあります☆）
(どちらも、７０年代のデッドで、箱つきですよん☆税込￥５，１４５－です～～～♪）
また、あまり知られていないことだと思いますが、
ケッズは 、１９１７年の設立以降、
スニーカー業界に新たな改革を多く興したブランドで、
それまで高級品であったスニーカーを、大衆化させた立役者でもある、ブランドです。
１９１７年当時、
スニーカーは一足6ドル
（現在の貨幣価値でおよそ10万円）もしていて、
とても大衆の手に出来るモノではありませんでした。
そのスニーカーを、
10分の1の60セントというプライスにダウンさせて、
広く大衆にひろめたのはケッズの大きな功績のひとつなんです。
また、
1920年にバンブの原型となる
シスター・スーがヒットしてたことによって、
女の人がスニーカーを履く事が、
一般化していったのもケッズの興した波だったんですよ。
翌々年の、
1922年には、
フィールドデイが発売されると、
『アメリカン・キッズはケッズで育つ』と、
ニュースなどでも取り上げられるようになり、
当時のケッズの有名な広告のキャッチフレーズ。
『ケッズをあなたの家族の一員に』は、
ケッズによっていかにスニーカーが、
子どもから大人まで受け入れられたのかを物語っているのです。
また、スニーカーをひろめただけでなく、
1934年には、
ショックプルーフの開発や、
その後LLビーンなどにも採用される、
鎖型ソールパターンの開発など、
機能面の改革でもスニーカーの、
歴史に大きな足跡を残しているんです。
また、スニーカーをファッションと結びつけたのも、
Kedｓケッズなんですよ♪
今でこそ、スニーカーをファッションとして取り入れるのは、
ごく自然なことですが、
1950年代には、まだ珍しかったんです。
当時の、
ヴォーグやエルといった、ファッション雑誌で、
オードリー・ヘップバーンやマリリン・モンロー、
グレタ・ガルボなど、
名だたる有名女優達に愛用されつづけ、
スタイリストやエディターだけでなく、
彼女達に憧れをいだく一般女性たちにも、
ひろく支持を得たことによって、
ハイブランドのデザイナーたちもスニーカーを作りだしたわけです。
ケッズの歴史の中で忘れてはいけないのは、
1958年、
新たに、プロスポーツ仕様として、
プロケッズが生まれた事です。
ブランド誕生の58年に、
不朽の名作ロイヤルアメリカが世に出ると、
ジョジョホワイト、ビートマラビッチ、ネイト・アーチボールド、ドクターJ
といった多くのNBAプレイヤーに履かれる事になり、
1967年には、ロイヤルアメリカは、
全米でなんと！300万足のセールスを達成し
バスケットユースが、スニーカ市場に無くてはならない物になりました。
70年代に入るとスニーカーは、
10代後半から20代前半のカルチャーシーンと強く結びついて、
プロケッズは、
アイビーリーガーのフェイバリットとなっていきました。
当時のロイヤルプラスが、
各学校のスクールカラーに合わせて履かれた事は、
ブログの冒頭でも紹介したフレーズですが、
『西のコンバース、東のプロケッズ』と呼ばれた、
大きな理由のひとつだったみたいです。
しかし、その後、
80年代初頭プロケッズは、
余りにも高額になったスポーツプレイヤーの契約金に、
疑問を持つようになり、
プロラインを閉鎖し、
原点に返り、大衆ブランドへの途を再び選択する事になったのです。
今回はケッズの歴史が盛りたくさんになりました。
ラストに箱のデザインになっていた、
当時のスタープレーヤーたちの、
人となりをアップしておきます～～～☆
まずはこの方、
ハラダ的には、
ケッズじゃなくて、
アディダスって感じがどうもしちゃうんですが（笑）
スタン・スミス氏（Stan Smith, 1946年12月14日 - ）は、
アメリカ・カリフォルニア州、
ローズボールのフリマで日本人バイヤーさんが毎月、訪れる
パサデナ出身の男子テニス選手。
1960年代後半から1970年代前半にかけて、
アメリカを代表する選手として活躍しました。
男子テニス国別対抗戦・デビスカップで、
アメリカ・チームに「7勝」をもたらした選手としてよく知られていまして、
当時のアメリカの国民的英雄でもあった人なのです。
引退後は優れたテニスコーチとしても活躍し有名なんだそうですよ☆
ウィリス・リード氏（Willis Reed Jr., 1942年6月25日 - ）は、
NBAで活躍した元バスケットボール選手です。
ルイジアナ州バーニス出身。身長206センチ、体重106キロ。
ニューヨーク・ニックスで10シーズン、リーグを代表する、
センタープレイヤーの一人として現役時代を過ごしました。
1996年にはNBA50周年を記念した
「50人の偉大な選手」に選ばれているNBAの☆なのです。
３人目はこの人、
ババ・スミス氏（Bubba・Smith 1945年生まれ。)
この方は一番変わった遍歴を持っていまして、
ボルチモア・コルツやオークランド・レイダースといったアメリカンフットボールの、
名ディフェンスとして活躍し、
全米スポーツファンの間では知らぬものがいないといわれるほどのスターだった。
んですが、フットボール界を引退後は、
俳優へ転進しまして、
演技レッスンをまったくうけないまま芸能界入りし、
テレビの人気シリーズ「チャーリーズエンジェル」「ブルーサンダー」などにゲスト出演、
タフな外見に似合わないユーモラスなキャラクターを買われて、
1984年の"POLICE ACADEMY"（ポリスアカデミー）にハイタワー役で抜擢されました。
その後も、ポリス・アカデミーには出演し続けまして、
ざっと出演作品こんな感じ↓です。
"STROKER ACE"（ストローカーエース、1983）、
"POLICE ACADEMY 2"（ポリスアカデミー ２、1985）、
"POLICE ACADEMY 3"（ポリスアカデミー ３、1986）、
"POLICE ACADEMY 4"（ポリスアカデミー ４、1987）、
"POLICE ACADEMY 5"（ポリスアカデミー ５、1988）、
"POLICE ACADEMY 6"（ポリスアカデミー ６、1989）、
"GREMLINS 2 THE NEW BATCH"（グレムリン２、1990）などなどなど。。。
ラストはこの方。
ジョニー・ベンチ氏（John Lee "Johnny" Bench, 1947年12月7日 - ）は、
元メジャーリーガー（捕手）。ニックネームは「Little General」であります。
1970年代ビッグレッドマシンと言われたシンシナティ・レッズの黄金時代を支えました。
MLB史上最強の捕手とも称され、
史上唯一、捕手で本塁打王タイトルを獲得しているのですよ☆
あ～今日はなんか、頑張ったような気がします（笑）

使った布の中には４０sの軍物バンダナや、
５０sのフィッシング・コミック柄のバンダナなどありまして、
バンダナ・コレクターの方にシカラレそうだなぁ。。。。なセットアップです（笑）
後ろはこんな感じで、
１９９１年のアンダーカバーさんのコレクションときのプレス腕章とか、
子どもの頃使ってたSEARS（シアーズ）の枕カバーの生地とか
こっちもいろいろ生地使っています。
久々に読書紹介。
丸谷才一氏の本を初めてちゃんと読んでいます。
ハラダはこの作者が非常に面白い御仁だなと、ページをめくる度にニヤニヤしております。

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard.
