How to see - the way of seeing things

Text: Takahiro Goko

How do you usually shop? Do you usually buy things by gathering information on the Internet, comparing and examining them? For example, lights and objects you find at flea markets that are one-of-a-kind and add a touch of color to your life. I am not saying that impulse buying is a good idea, but it might be a good idea to buy things that are more true to your own sensibilities and feelings. Here, Goko-san, who collects interior goods, vintage items, crafts, and local toys from all over the world, without limiting the genre, age, or region, and with her own unique sensibility, tells us how she sees and enjoys things.

Vol. 1 Nice to meet you.

Greetings, I am Goko from the Swimsuit Department.

It felt strange to suddenly mention things from the very beginning, so I will start with a greeting.

It was as early as 10 years ago that I started Swimsuit Department. During this time, we have seen and acquired a wide variety of things. Especially when it comes to old things, there is no boundary between hobby and acquisition, and I go out to purchase and acquire things every week.

Here we would like to introduce some of our favorite things.

As for the title, it is from one of my favorite American designers, George Nelson's book, "How to see." In other words, "how to see things."

One such example is the recent Instagram, which shows how to crop photos on a square canvas, etc. Objects can be seen and noticed differently depending on how they are cropped and from different angles.

We hope to introduce such a part of the world to you in a fun way.

I am sure it will be mostly old stuff, but please bear with me.

We will start next time.

Thank you for your cooperation.
