How to see - the way of seeing things

Text: Takahiro Goko

How do you usually shop? Do you usually buy things by gathering information on the Internet, comparing and examining them? For example, lights and objects you find at flea markets that are one-of-a-kind and add a touch of color to your life. I am not saying that impulse buying is a good idea, but it might be a good idea to buy things that are more true to your own sensibilities and feelings. Here, Goko-san, who collects interior goods, vintage items, crafts, and local toys from all over the world, without limiting the genre, age, or region, and with her own unique sensibility, tells us how she sees and enjoys things.

Vol. 4 The visual magic of the grid .

A few years ago, I suddenly noticed that when I placed an object on the grid patterned paper, it looked different from usual. Even the most ordinary sundries started to look to me as if they were contemporary art. I started to play with it, and I couldn't stop. It was a bit like adult play.

How do the ingredients look?" , I suddenly thought, and put down some snacks that were nearby. It was a world I had never seen before, and it was a moment when I felt the magic of the grid. This was the birth of this original plate.

I think the gray and black joints on white tiles used in architecture have that effect as well.

With a little trigger such as the color and pattern of the background, things take on a different look.
