Vol. 5 Ventilation tower in Umeda.

About 10 years ago, while walking around Umeda Station, which was undergoing redevelopment, I noticed a tower with an unusual silvery glow. I usually drove by the tower, so I did not notice it, but the atmosphere it gave off was something special.

The first thing that came to mind was the Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown Los Angeles, designed by Frank O. Gehry.
I was curious and immediately looked it up. It was not just a monument, but a structure built in 1963 by architect Togo Murano for the intake of air in the underground shopping center in Umeda. Moreover, it was built long before the Walt Disney Concert Hall, which was constructed in 2003.
Needless to say, the hard shine of the stainless steel plate, which has not faded even now, has also given the impression of flexibility, making it my favorite structure of all time.
I can't forget the strange coincidence that "Togo Murano: Soft Architecture and Interiors" was being held at the Osaka Museum of History at that time, and I happened to know that one of my customers at the store was Mr. Murano's grandson.
In recent years, various buildings that are considered masterpieces of architecture are being lost due to aging and development.
Don't just walk around looking at your cell phone, look up and see more architecture and its design burned into your naked eye.
