How to see - the way of seeing things

Text: Takahiro Goko

How do you usually shop? Do you usually buy things by gathering information on the Internet, comparing and examining them? For example, lights and objects you find at flea markets that are one-of-a-kind and add a touch of color to your life. I am not saying that impulse buying is a good idea, but it might be a good idea to buy things that are more true to your own sensibilities and feelings. Here, Goko-san, who collects interior goods, vintage items, crafts, and local toys from all over the world, without limiting the genre, age, or region, and with her own unique sensibility, tells us how she sees and enjoys things.

Vol.6 A universe called kneading.

This beautiful, large bowl is very large, measuring 55 cm in diameter. . The artist's name is Yasuki Kaketani, who has a kiln in Fukuyama, Hiroshima Prefecture.

And this unique pattern is made not by glazing or painting, but by a technique called "kneading. Of course, it is not easy to make an object of this size using a potter's wheel, but when you consider the risk of breakage or scratches, and the care that goes into the production process, the precision and accuracy of this technique are immeasurable.

Its "kneading" method involves layering or kneading different colors of clay, cutting it, and forming it in a mold. . You might imagine it by comparing it to Kintaro candy. Well, it is easy to say, but if the clay is baked with even a slight sticking problem, it will crack or twist, and will no longer be a product. Moreover, if even one breakage occurs, the products made in that lot will have problems in the same place.

. Since it is this size, to me, it looks like a light universe to the naked eye.

When we look at things from the perspective of imagining the way they were made and their personalities, we can see them from a different angle and love them again.

. hence, this is my treasure.
