How to see - the way of seeing things

Text: Takahiro Goko

How do you usually shop? Do you usually buy things by gathering information on the Internet, comparing and examining them? For example, lights and objects you find at flea markets that are one-of-a-kind and add a touch of color to your life. I am not saying that impulse buying is a good idea, but it might be a good idea to buy things that are more true to your own sensibilities and feelings. Here, Goko-san, who collects interior goods, vintage items, crafts, and local toys from all over the world, without limiting the genre, age, or region, and with her own unique sensibility, tells us how she sees and enjoys things.

Vol. 7 Peter Shire .

Peter Shire is an artist based in Los Angeles. He was a member of the legendary Italian design team Memphis in the 1980s, and was one of the leaders of the postmodern movement.

I met Peter about seven years ago. Of course I knew of his accomplishments, but it wasn't until an acquaintance in Los Angeles introduced me to him and I visited his studio that a switch flipped inside me.

To be honest, my impression of their work until then was that it was too flashy to keep in my possession. However, when I met Peter in person and saw his personality and worldview, and picked up a piece of his work, it was easy to accept it and it did not take me long at all to decide to start dealing in it.

It was tableware that I had seen, and nothing had ever made my life so much more enjoyable. Especially when it comes to mugs, they have taught me the pleasure of making coffee in the morning and made it a habit to do so, changing my everyday life. It is also very special to use it in the morning sunlight, and it makes for a pleasant start to the day.

. The act of meeting the creator also changes the way we see an object. I think it is a very important act to love an object to feel the personality of the person who made it, and to hold it in one's hands and touch the personality of the person who made it.
