How to see - the way of seeing things

Text: Takahiro Goko

How do you usually shop? Do you usually buy things by gathering information on the Internet, comparing and examining them? For example, lights and objects you find at flea markets that are one-of-a-kind and add a touch of color to your life. I am not saying that impulse buying is a good idea, but it might be a good idea to buy things that are more true to your own sensibilities and feelings. Here, Goko-san, who collects interior goods, vintage items, crafts, and local toys from all over the world, without limiting the genre, age, or region, and with her own unique sensibility, tells us how she sees and enjoys things.

Vol. 10 Renault Avantime.

I am not that much of a car guy, but I have a car that I use as a company car because of my job, which requires me to carry a lot of luggage. After I became independent, I got it without any hesitation.

As you can see, the car is called "Avantime" by Renault, and as you can see, its slightly avant-garde design is eye-catching. Designed by Patrick Leckemann, it is a minivan, three-door coupe, and a cabriolet.

It would take quite a long time to start talking about this car, so I will try to mention only its appearance.

I especially like the design around the rear, which looks like a ship and has an unusual shape not found in other cars. And since there are no pillars (body pillars) around the large hinged doors, when all the glass is lowered, the large openness and appearance is indescribable. In addition, the ceiling is a large glass sunroof, which turns into a cabriolet-like appearance when all of it is opened. Moreover, there is a button that allows you to open it all at once, and the exhilarating feeling you get when you press it is enough to make you a bit addicted to it.

There are still many things to talk about, but anyway, I don't think we will see such a novel car for a while. Domestic cars with the latest modern technology are nice, but I really feel that there is nothing I would like to drive in terms of design. Every day I feel that it would be better if we could design cars more freely.
