Director's note by Daisuke Iga
As in the previous issue, Mr. Iga has joined us as the general director and stylist. First of all, could you give us a brief explanation about this movie?
Iga: The last time we shot a live concert, we used a story-like atmosphere, so this time, on the other hand, we thought it would be better to leave things "open". So, in a simple studio with natural light, we decided to go with a graphical style that is typical of Kando, the movie director. However, too much treatment would have been uninteresting, so I left some analog elements in the finished movie, such as crosses falling down from above and the background changing as the blue wall slides in and out.
Ryosuke Nagaoka and Hana Kuroki were the main cast, and Akito Inui appeared again in the last scene. What was your intention behind this casting?
Iga: Margaret Howell's clothes reveal a person's personality just by rolling up the sleeves or knitwear a little. In that sense, I wanted to cast people who have a certain atmosphere, not just because they are popular. That is why I asked Uki (Nagaoka) and Hana-chan, whose clothes fit well.
As you said, they were so realistic that I thought they were both wearing their own clothes.
Iga: For example, if you are wearing a high-fashion outfit that is too tight, you feel a sense of tension when wearing it. However, Margaret Howell's clothes are everyday items, so you don't need to put on that much makeup, and if you are not very good at it, you don't even need to put on foundation. It is clothing that allows you to be "just as you are," and I think the comfort of the clothes affects the way you look. That's why Mr. Inui, who appears at the end, looks so naturally suited to the clothes.
What are some of the highlights of this movie?
Iga: I think this is a completely different work from the last one. However, we are dealing with the same brand of clothes, and I hope that people will see a different side of Margaret Howell.
I think it will be more interesting if we compare it with your previous work.
Iga: If there is another one, it will be totally different. You know the wedding party scene in "The Godfather There's the wedding party scene in "Part 1," right? The one in the garden. If I were to do it, I would like to shoot something like that. Gather a lot of people, young and old, men and women, eating, drinking, and dancing. If you film everyone having fun, that's all you need to do. Margaret Howell's ability to do anything in that way is amazing, isn't it?
