The editorial department of Huinamu goes deep into the Shinsaibashi Parco's 5th anniversary!

Shinsaibashi PARCO opened in November 2020 at a time when the world was in turmoil. This year marks the 5th anniversary of the unique PARCO, which mixes the cutting edge with local characteristics and is unlike any other. We caught up with two members of the Finamu editorial staff, Tsuneshige and Takeda, on a November day when an event was held to commemorate the event, to get a glimpse of how the event was going!

DAY 1 Visit tenants of interest.

LAND OF TOMORROW (3rd floor)

Among the approximately 170 stores and many tenants, the first place I set foot on the 3rd floor was the Land of Tomorrow" on the third floor. This select store is only available in the Marunouchi and Shinsaibashi Parco stores in Tokyo. The lineup ranges from the most luxurious items to affordable original items.

As part of the anniversary commemorative contents, a pop-up of "Eguchi Yohin Ten and Eguchi Watch Ten" from Tokyo was being held on this day.

Takeda-san, you went to the Tokyo store on YouTube for Huinamu, right?

Takeda: That's right. At that time, Mr. Eguchi, the owner of the store, told me many stories, and I became interested in watches. Mr. Eguchi was also the reason why I bought a Cartier Tancrouy.

Tsuneshige: I haven't been able to visit the Tokyo store myself yet, but I've always been curious about it, so I was looking forward to it.

Takeda: You have an amazing lineup of items today.

Tsuneshige: There are a lot of "chêne d'anglais" from Hermès, too.

Takeda: I don't have an image of Chang-san wearing accessories, but are you interested in them?

Tsuneshige: I used to wear a lot of Indian jewelry. I don't wear Indian jewelry much these days. Actually, I'm interested in "Crescendo" by Hermes.

In addition to watches, many Hermès clothes from the period when Margiela was designing were also on display. The two men reached out to these items as well.

Tsuneshige: How's this?

Takeda: It's so nice, isn't it?

Tsuneshige: I've been in the mood for jackets again lately and was looking for something like this. It's true to size too, what can I do?

Can you tell us about your two fashion obsessions?

Tsuneshige: First of all, as a prerequisite, I like things that I don't know what brand they are. I also like new clothes that look like old clothes, or old clothes that look like new clothes. This jacket is vintage, but it's in good condition, so it's right in the middle of the pack.

Takeda: Yes, I do have that image. You can't always tell where the clothes are from. Also, when I think of Tsune-san, he often wears a MA-1 or a VietJan.

Tsuneshige: That being said, it is true that many of the tops may be short.

How about you, Mr. Takeda?

Takeda: Of course, the design is important, but for me, it is the silhouette. Especially when it comes to pants, I want to hide the slimness of my legs, so I choose pants that are thick enough not to be too fashionable.

Tsuneshige: Didn't you wear the one you are trying on now yesterday in Tokyo?

Takeda: I've been wearing a lot of gray clothes like this lately (laughs). However, the shawl collar gives me a grandfatherly feeling, or in a good way, it's unattractive and fresh.

From there, Tsuneshige repeated several times trying on clothes. I almost bought a velour jacket, but I left the store with a long backward look on my face, saying, "I'll have to consult with my wallet.... Next, we went to the 6th floor, where pop culture is concentrated!

In addition to many items exclusive to Osaka, there is also an item commemorating the anniversary. These are figures made in the motif of "Osaka papier-mâché," a traditional Osaka craft. These figures are very adorable. A total of three types, two Godzilla and one Hedorah, will be sold in a limited edition of 200 pieces each.

Speaking of Hedorah, Tsuneshige, who tried his hand at gacha gacha, also got Hedorah, just as he had hoped. He will welcome it as a new addition to his desk in the editorial office.

To begin with, have you both been through Gojira?

Tsuneshige: Matsui (Hideki) came through, but not the original....

Takeda: I used to have several VHS recordings of Godzilla movies at home, and I used to watch them often. I also had a translucent gold Godzilla soft vinyl.

Tsuneshige: I've always played baseball, so I haven't really been exposed to that kind of culture. (Tsuneshige is a former high school baseball player. (Tsuneshige is a former high school baseball player who was assigned to play catcher at a strong school, in the bullpen.)

Do you collect anything now?

Tsuneshige: I have a cat, so recently I have been looking for cat goods. I would like to find something I can be passionate about.

Takeda: Recently, I've been buying cassette tapes. I also often buy hand towels when I travel. That's why I want this.

He showed me a hand towel with a design written in sumi ink, which is only available in Osaka. I couldn't help but reach for the limited-edition hand towels. The crowd on this floor was truly amazing!

PARCO" neon signs are everywhere in the building. It is also a popular photo spot.

Marufuku Coffee Shop Good Old & New Edition (4F)

Marufuku Coffee Shop, which is said to have laid the foundation of Osaka's coffee culture, is located on the fourth floor of Shinsaibashi Parco. It is said that the intensity of coffee is different in the Kanto and Kansai regions, with the Kansai coffee being generally bitter. The reason for this is said to be that the Marufuku Coffee Shop has been serving strong coffee since 1934.

What you will taste at such a restaurant is the famous hot coffee and melon soda, as well as special pancakes, which are on the anniversary menu.

Do you often eat pancakes?

Takeda: For a while, I used to eat pancakes all the time in the morning. They were the ones you could just heat up in the oven.( lol). I like pancakes a lot.

Tsuneshige: I don't eat much sweet food myself. However, my sister runs a café, and I ask her about coffee every time I go back home, so I drink a lot of coffee. I am still learning the difference in taste (laughs).

Osaka is known as the "kitchen of the nation. Mr. Tsuneshige told us that there is one restaurant he always goes to when he comes to Osaka.

Tsuneshige: It's not very Osaka-like at all, but I will definitely go there for hot pot, tacos and sushi.

Takeda: What kind of restaurant?

Tsuneshige: Tacos are at El Pancho and sushi is at Jinnen. Hot pot is a secret.

Just as we were getting a glimpse of what we were going to do this evening, the hot cakes we had been waiting for arrived. The pancakes, which many people order, are decorated with a special anniversary design and filled with fruit. They are cooked on a copper plate, not in a mold, and the savory smell wafts from far away.

How is the taste?

Tsuneshige: It's so good, it's insanely good.

Takeda: It may sound exaggerated, but it may be the best in my life....

Tsuneshige: It really is. Crunchy around the edges and moist in the middle. The taste is good, but the texture is too fresh. If you visit Shinsaibashi Parco, I strongly recommend you to stop by!

Marufuku Coffee Shop has 28 stores nationwide and 16 stores in Osaka City. The reason why Marufuku Coffee Shop has been loved for so long is because of its taste. Try their classic yet innovative pancakes!

SHINSAIBASHI PARCO 5th Anniversary OPENING PARTY powered by CIRCUS OSAKA(B1F-4F)

DJ booths were set up by the escalators on almost every floor of the building, and DJs came and went as they pleased, filling the building at night with the rhythmic beat of their own music. Customers stopped and danced while shopping.

To celebrate the anniversary, "Shinsaibashi Parco" was turned into a club by "CIRCUS OSAKA," one of Osaka's leading clubs. Takeda was right when he said, "This is the first time I've ever heard such an explosion of sound at a commercial facility.

CIRCUS" has deep roots in Osaka. OSAKA" came out to celebrate the event, and the special DJs playing at the event were the result of the relationship that has been built over the years. It was an act that showed how much "Shinsaibashi PARCO" has cared about its hometown and given back to it.

Although headquartered in Tokyo, Shinsaibashi PARCO is firmly committed to the local community, and is not slacking in its grassroots activities. This is, after all, a facility that sets itself apart from other PARCOs.
