They're playing while taking a broader view of nature.
Mr. Katsuyama is leisurely pedaling from the campground, enjoying the scenery. He says he loves bicycles just as much as cars and rides them often.
"I guess I just like vehicles with tires (laughs). The fun comes from controlling them myself. That's why we have a motorcycle at home, and I choose which one to ride depending on what I'm doing."
“Among all of them, bicycles are appealing because they’re agile and relatively easy to customize to your liking,” he says, gently running his hand over his beloved bike.
"I sometimes bring it to campgrounds, too. I’ve gone for rides around the area, like today, and I’ve even gone on a tour around the Fuji Five Lakes. Also, at large campgrounds, the restrooms can be far away, so it comes in handy in those situations (laughs)."
According to Mr. Katsuyama, more and more people have been bringing their bicycles to camp lately.
"I think people have just gotten tired of camping alone. That’s why they’re doing things like fishing and stand-up paddleboarding—enjoying nature in a broader sense. I actually think the popularity of tent saunas is part of that trend. I believe it’s the result of the outdoor boom, with everyone pursuing their own unique ways of having fun."
