One of the largest art book fairs in the world .

The recent youth culture boom has been a tailwind for zine culture, which has been featured in the media more often than ever before. The content of course varies widely, but so does the binding. There are primitive zines made with a copy machine and a stapler, those printed and bound by printers, and limited editions handmade by artists.

. zine culture tied to youth culture.

There are various theories as to the origin of the zine, which was born as a kind of coterie magazine in Japan, but there is no doubt that the zine medium took root among young people in the 80s when it became associated with the punk and skateboarding cultures. It was a free mixture of drawings, poems, and photographs, such as those made by Mark Gonzalez. Inheriting this spirit and influenced by others, individual artists and small publishers are creating what they find interesting and what they want to express on a daily basis, and this is the current situation of zine culture.

NYABF, organized by Printed Matter, Inc. of New York, an independent bookstore that has become a mecca for artists and little presses from around the world, is now one of the largest art book fairs held worldwide. NYABF is one of the largest art book fairs in the world. Moma Ps 1, the venue of the fair, is an art museum that was renovated from a former elementary school. The entire quaint former school building will be used for exhibitions, bookstores and publishers from all over the world will have booths for sale, and there will be a tent zone with independent booths outside, a dome zone with many famous publishers, and a small tent zone manned by an 8 ball zine. It is impossible to visit all of them in one day!

There were countless booths selling a huge variety of products and workshops, and as a "NYABF" beginner, I found myself in a panic trying to figure out where to start. In such cases, I recommend that you take a moment to sort things out in your mind and listen to a live performance by the Onyx Collective or a DJ from KNOW WAVE while drinking a beer in the courtyard. The key to enjoying the vast amount of information at NYABF may be to enjoy it freely without getting carried away.

Eric Elms is the creator of "Powers. . He also runs his own publishing label, And Press, at his own pace.

The booth of Germany-based artist Stefan Marx, who was selling a number of original drawings in addition to zines.

At the Heavy Time Books booth was Ed Davis , an artist who also does graphics for Brain Dead.

Two members of the Deadbeat Club, an LA-based publisher specializing in photography. From left to right, Clint Woodside and Dan Monick. Both great photographers .

Hamburger Eyes, which has many fans in Japan for its intense worldview, has bosses Ray Portz and Andrea.

The two members of the commune participated from Japan with a number of zines of overwhelming quality produced with artists from around the world.

. and a number of booths that will attract attention from the international fashion scene.

Here are some of the vendors that caught my personal attention. Eric Elms, who has worked with numerous brands and is currently working with Powers; artist Stephan Marx, who has collaborated with Vinyl Archive in the past and provided artwork for Comme des Garcons' 18S/S items; artist Ed Davis, who also does artwork for the popular brand BrainDead; and heavy-time books by artist Ed Davis, who has been interviewed by Huynem in the past. HOUYHNHNM's has also featured interviews with artists such as LA's Deadbeat Club, San Francisco's Hamburger Eyes, and Commune, which opened a store with a zine of overwhelmingly high quality from Japan. and a commune from Japan that opened a store with a zine of overwhelmingly high quality. The list is endless. Although there are no photos, V1 Gallery in Copenhagen produced many zines for NYABF with big name artists such as Barry McGee, Ari Markopolos, and Matt Damhub, and their booth was busy from start to finish. It was impressive that the booth was crowded from start to finish.

One of the pleasures of art book fairs like this is the opportunity to interact directly with the artists themselves and their publishers. It is usually rare to hear about the contents of a zine from the artists themselves or from the publishers. This experience is sure to get you more and more involved in this culture.

What is special to you may have no value at all to someone else. Eric Elms said when he visited Japan this year, "zines are about passion," and I was reminded of this phrase many times during my four days at the NYABF. It was a four-day event in which I was bathed in the passion of art lovers from all over the world, while being reminded of the importance of not only following what is considered valuable, cute, or cool by the public, but also responding to what you like in a pure and genuine way.
