I'm interested in court-style sneakers from the '70s. The Puma Clyde is one of them.

First of all, please tell us about your relationship with PUMA Clyde. When did you first wear them?

small treeI liked rock and punk music when I was a teenager, but I was not familiar with "Puma" because of its hip-hop image.

But later, as I became more and more devoted to hip-hop, I came to realize that "Puma" was an integral part of hip-hop, and I started wearing them myself. The definitive model was a collaboration with "YO! MTV Raps" released in the mid-2000s. The thing itself was cool, and I liked wearing them a lot.

And what kind of presence does "Puma Clyde" have in your current fashion?

small treeI've been interested in '70s fashion lately, and in that vein, I've been paying attention to '70s court-style sneakers. The Puma Clyde is one of them. It is difficult to embody '70s fashion in clothing, but it is easy to incorporate it in footwear.

What is your favorite Puma Clyde model from the past?

small treeFirst of all, there is the collaboration model with "YO! MTV RAPS" that I mentioned earlier. Also, I really like the Italian-made model that came out a while ago. I really like the texture of the leather.

Next, please tell us about the special order model for "UNITED ARROWS & SONS". Various wool materials with different patterns and colors are used for the upper.

small treePuma Clyde" was born as a signature model of Walt Frazier, a basketball player nicknamed "Clyde," and Mr. Frazier is so stylish that it is hard to believe he is an athlete. He was also known for his cool suits and jackets. When I used to work on "Liquor, Women & Tears," I was influenced by him and used his fashion as a reference.

Inspired by Mr. Frazier's suit style, the upper of this special-order model by "United Arrows & Sons" is decorated with various suit fabrics in a crazy pattern.

Can you tell us more about the fabrics and details of each of your products?

small treeThe toe, tongue, and insole are in glen check, with herringbone on the outside of the upper and chalk stripes of varying pitch widths on the inside. The inside of the upper is decorated with herringbone on the outside and chalk stripes with different pitch widths on the inside, while the inside is navy to emphasize the crazy look. The form stripe is made of suede and the lining is smooth leather. The logo is surrounded by gold for an old-school hip-hop feel.

This season, "UNITED ARROWS & SONS" is developing an abundance of items that incorporate suit fabrics into casual items. I think the "Puma Clyde" will be easy to match with the feet of such clothes.

How do you feel when you actually hold the finished shoes in your hands?

small treeI like it very much. It is made in Japan, and the level of perfection is more than I expected.

Lastly, how do sneakers fit into your fashion lineup?

small treeMy stance on sneakers can be summed up in these words: "Polishing leather shoes is the same as polishing sneakers" was the concept behind the former "Liquor, Women & Tears. Some people say that wearing leather shoes makes them feel more relaxed, but I feel more relaxed when I wear my favorite sneakers. For me, leather shoes and sneakers are on the same level, and both are important.
