Vintage SUV.

The other day, I had the chance to talk with a woman who used to work at Girl Fuinam and now works at a certain fashion magazine. The conversation turned to cars, and I was surprised to learn that she owns an older model “Land Cruiser Prado.” She said she inherited it from her parents, but I never would have imagined that someone who carries a *Saint Laurent* bag would be behind the wheel of an SUV.

Veilance

Vailance Shorts

There's no time to waste!

Summer days, hot summer days, sweltering days—and this year, “extreme heat days” have been added to the list. This term refers to dangerous days when temperatures reach 40 degrees or higher, and the heatwave in Europe that’s been in the news day after day is a perfect example of this. Even after the summer solstice, Tokyo remained cool and comfortable, but now, with the end of the rainy season approaching, summer is finally kicking into high gear. When I checked the weekly forecast, I saw a string of temperatures all above 30 degrees! Realizing I needed to quickly shift my wardrobe, I set my sights on *Vailance*’s “Seacant Comp Shorts.” These shorts feature the brand’s signature solid look, but if you look closely, you’ll notice a contrast in fabric between the front and back. Plus, thanks to their unique pattern-making, they’ve eliminated the inner seams—the inseams—to ensure maximum comfort. In addition to the front hand pockets, I’m also happy to see zippered pockets on both sides. Of course, the fabric is a technical material with excellent waterproofing, wind resistance, and breathability. They look like they’ll dry quickly after washing, so I’ll probably end up wearing nothing but these. I need to stop hesitating and add this instant solution to my wardrobe as soon as possible…

HERNO

Herno Coveralls

The Joy of Fashion.

The other day, I visited the Herno showroom for the first time. Of course, I’d heard of Herno before, but when I spoke with the manager, I was surprised to learn that the brand has a much richer history than I’d imagined. They’ll be celebrating their 80th anniversary in two years, which also marks the 60th anniversary of their entry into the Japanese market. Starting with coats and other outerwear, they now offer a range of items suited to the times, such as T-shirts, knitwear, and comfortable pants. Among them, this coverall really caught my eye. Denim itself is a relatively recent addition to Herno’s lineup, but I really love the natural look of this piece. It’s not too casual, yet it doesn’t feel as stiff as rigid denim. The brown stitching along the placket, pocket edges, and sleeves, combined with the donut buttons on the front, really accentuate its style. And the collar is a stand-up style you don’t see elsewhere. You can wear it laid down, as shown in the photo, or stand it up—either way, it looks great. A coverall might just be the perfect choice for the start of fall. Being able to imagine that slightly distant future is one of the true joys of fashion.

LACOSTE

Lacoste Sneakers

An unexpected choice.

Here’s the pair I fell in love with at the exhibition this past May. The moment I saw them, I thought they were a nice-looking pair of moccasins, but when I picked them up, I realized they were sneakers. The stitching running along key points of the full-grain leather upper, the smudged-looking eyelets, and the cursive “Lacoste” peeking out from the knot of the dangling shoelaces. The combination of these details gives the shoe a cool, edgy look—in the best possible way. In recent years, Lacoste has released a wide variety of sneakers—from classic court shoes to hybrid designs—and it’s truly impressive how they consistently nail the points that fashion-savvy people are likely to love. When thinking about what pants to pair with these, chinos, jeans, and military-style pants are definitely good choices, but it might also be fun to go against the grain and try them with dress pants. Incidentally, the release is scheduled for September. It’ll be a little while before they hit the shelves, but this is a new release you’ll definitely want to check out in person.

Yusuke Suzuki

Better to act hypocritically than to do nothing at all.

“Fifteen years ago, I was struck by that line: ”The word for ‘for others’ is actually read as ‘falsehood.’” Maybe it’s because I’m getting older, but I feel like I’ve been thinking about it more often lately.

BUDSPOOL × GAKKIN

Buds Pool × Gakkin Shirt

One of the hallmarks of summer.

I imagine that more than half of people over 40, like myself, have seen director Shunji Iwai’s film *Fireworks: Should We Watch from Below or from the Side?*. Looking back, it’s a fond memory of watching the “Fukuroi Enshu Fireworks” from a path through the rice fields when I was a child in Shizuoka, my father’s hometown. However, since I’ve never been a fan of the extraordinary crowds at fireworks festivals, as an adult I’ve led a life almost entirely disconnected from fireworks. I do like fireworks themselves—they have a certain sense of wabi-sabi—so I was intrigued by the open-collar shirt featuring sparklers, released as a collaboration between *Buds Pool* and tattoo artist GAKKIN. The highlights include an all-over pattern of sparklers on rayon fabric, black mother-of-pearl cat’s-eye buttons, and embroidery of the classic logo on the left chest pocket. It might be a bit cliché, but wearing this to a fireworks festival or enjoying sparklers would be nice, and it’s a design that foreign visitors would likely appreciate as well. By the way, the handheld fireworks I happened to spot at a convenience store the other day were advertised as producing very little smoke. Maybe I’m just out of the loop, but I couldn’t help but feel that times have changed.

BARBER SAKOTA

Barber Sakota Shoulder Pads

It feels like it adds to the ease of use.

I started commuting by bike half the week starting this spring. Just as I started noticing all sorts of things once I started riding—like wanting an almond-colored chain or being bothered by the basket’s mounting bracket—I also faced the question of what kind of bag would be best. The things I carry for work are just a laptop, glasses, a book, and a reusable bag. Backpacks are convenient, but the problem of sweaty backs is just too real; slinging a tote bag over my shoulder is both inconvenient and dangerous; and putting my laptop in the basket raises concerns about vibrations. It’s not exactly “let the professionals handle it,” but just as there are messenger bags, I feel like a shoulder bag is the best choice. And what takes it to the next level are the shoulder pads from and . With their absolutely perfect sizing and plastic buckles where you can hook caps and small items, they’re the kind of design you’d expect from a cyclist like Mr. Sakoda. By the way, I hear the second installment of ’s 10th-anniversary event is scheduled for October, so I’ll make a note of it in my Google Calendar.

Campanella

Campanella's "Celosia" LP

Campanella

To me, Campanella is someone who looks great in a club. The event held at “WWW X”Solo Concert "Optimistic"The night before, I’d run into him at “HARLEM” in the middle of the night and at “clubasia” in the early morning, and while I thought, “It’s amazing he’s out like this the day before his own solo show,” I also found myself wondering, half-asleep, “Does that mean the show’s already started?” The solo show lasted about 120 minutes, and while I thought it was as cool as ever, of course, I was really moved by the sight of Chinza DOPENESS shouting out to the backing DJ, shobbiecons. I spent most of the time watching the couple right in front of me having a great time from the very back of the venue. At the “Optimistic” merchandise booth, I bought the LP of Campanella’s album *Celosia*, released in February. Although it’s a different medium,An interview with writer Miyazaki at the time of the releaseI recommend reading it, as it will help you better understand the work. Personally, out of the tracks on *Celosia*, I’ve been listening to “TYRON Freestyle (Prod by shobbieconz)” on repeat the most.

rajabrooke

Rajabook Tops

A “high-performance piste” packed with its signature style.

FuiNam readers, have you ever heard of “Piste”? If you’ve ever played soccer or futsal, I’m sure you’ve heard of it at least once. To put it simply, it’s a pullover-style training shirt designed without zippers so it doesn’t hurt when the ball hits you. Since most are made of nylon, they’re also windproof—another key feature. For those who don’t play sports, this might be a term you’re not very familiar with, but that’s where the legendary 〈Rajabrook.〉. The newly released “BERGUNA PISTE” has been transformed into a fashion item, living up to its name as a “useful piste.” I’ve heard that this piece incorporates designs from formal traditional attire the designer purchased in Malaysia, and it also features the signature slit at the chest that the brand has refined over several seasons. The finished look is simple yet packed with the essence of , making a very favorable impression.

Head to Miyashita this weekend!

Starting tomorrow, Friday, July 17, a four-day market event featuring 16 people connected to Fuinam will be held at Miyashita Park. It’s “Fuinam in Person”—an event that goes beyond the confines of the web. We look forward to seeing you there.

DR. MARTENS FOR MHL.

Dr. Martens for MHL.

My first Martin.

I had never worn Dr. Martens before. The reason was obvious: with my buzz cut and slim build, if I were to wear them, I’d end up looking like a little kid who idolizes the Skins. Because of that self-consciousness, I’d always stayed away from the brand, but thanks to MHL., I finally had the chance to slip a pair on. This first collaboration between these two iconic British brands centers on the classic 3-eyelet “1461” model. It features subtle refinements, such as a padded heel collar and unwaxed flat laces, but what really caught my eye was the double stitching on the toe. It’s a rugged detail typically found on work boots for reinforcement, but when paired with the shoe’s overall clean aesthetic, it even gives off the refined elegance of a straight-tip shoe. The familiar yellow stitching has also been changed to black, so I can wear these without feeling self-conscious or self-conscious. It feels like I’ve finally found the “1461” that’s just right for me.

Tomoteru Nishimura

T-shirt from Yuki Nishimura’s solo exhibition “Force is Mine”

You have to see it with your own eyes.

I know many of you may not be aware of this, but actually, Fuinam is “BEAMS CULTUARTI’m involved in editing an owned media platform called “.” It features a series called “Where Art Is Born,” in which we visit artists’ studios. In the latest installment, we spoke with Yuki Nishimura. For more details,This articleSetting that aside, what I really want to convey here is that you should definitely see the artwork with your own eyes. The works—which depict various motifs wrapped in aluminum—seem hyper-realistic at first glance, but the impression is completely different when viewed up close. I saw the artwork for the first time during my interview, and I was amazed by its mysterious mechanisms. Now, I can already hear you asking, “So where can I see the artwork?” A solo exhibition is being held at “BEAMS CULTURE Takanawa” through Monday, July 20 (a national holiday), so please be sure to check it out. …Well, I’ve gone on a bit too long with this introduction, but this T-shirt was created specifically for that exhibition.

KEEN × Marmot

Keen × Marmot Shoes

Work boots.

This happened during a photo shoot on a rainy day the other day. Apparently, the road leading to the studio was one of the steepest in Japan—and I’m not exaggerating when I say I actually slipped and nearly tumbled down the hill. After that terrifying experience, I started looking for a pair of shoes that met three criteria: “water resistance,” “grip,” and “black, so they wouldn’t stand out on set.” Although I do own a few pairs of waterproof shoes, when I took another look at my shoe rack, I realized, surprisingly, that none of them were black… That’s how I came across this collaboration model between Keen and Marmot. It’s based on the classic “Targhee” model, but the design features a black base accented with red—Marmot’s signature color. Rather than being fashion-forward, it’s the calm, stoic color scheme—made possible precisely because these are two outdoor brands—that makes them perfect for on-set use. And with a pair like this, I shouldn’t have to worry about rainy-day shoots or steep slopes. Well, I don’t think I’ll run into situations like that very often, though.

A Taste of Summer.

I’ve caught a summer cold again this year. I have a high fever, and it’s taking a long time to get better, so it’s quietly miserable. Fortunately, it didn’t coincide with any photo shoots or major events, so that was a relief… But while I was bedridden, summer had already arrived. Please take good care of yourselves, everyone.

LUCKY LOOPS

Lucky Loops Tops

An "Aloha"-style knit.

Summer calls for summery outfits. I think enjoying the feel of the season is one of the true joys of fashion. That’s why I picked up this pineapple-print knit shirt from Lucky Loops. I’ve featured items from this brand before on “Shopping Addict”—even in winter—and this season’s collection really hit the spot for me. Since it’s knit, it has a sheer quality, so you can have fun layering it over colorful tops underneath, and I think it would look great thrown over a swimsuit, too. The fact that the buttons are made of seashells is another personal favorite detail. This piece truly offers a glimpse into the subtle playfulness and positive vibes that *Lucky Loops* values so much. Well, I’m heading to the beach again this summer. I’m totally ready to have a blast.

Awasha's Shorts

A pleasant, crunchy texture.

Once you put on shorts, your outfit automatically becomes casual. They’re comfortable, but if they’re too casual, you end up looking a bit sloppy. What solved that dilemma was this pair I found at . These shorts, featuring delicate stripes and pleats, look polished enough to pair with leather shoes, yet they’re truly comfortable even when worn all day in the heat. The reason is that the wool is finished with a high-twist twill weave and undergoes a special treatment. This creates a crisp texture reminiscent of a pear’s skin, ensuring the fabric glides smoothly against the skin. They’re soft and breathable, so you’ll stay cool even when wearing them in the height of summer. This is the true appeal of the *Awasā* brand—something you can only truly appreciate by wearing it yourself. I feel that their commitment to creating a texture that feels comfortable to the wearer is evident in every single item.

L/UNIFORM

Luniform Bags

L/UNIFORM

Something occurred to me recently when I heard the term “effortless style.” While I agree that an effortless look is important, I wondered if, in my case, I might actually be better off with a slightly more polished look. That’s why I’ve been drawn more and more to high-quality, elegant pieces. That’s exactly why the bag from perfectly matches my current mood. It features durable canvas woven from cotton and linen, accented with full-grain calf leather padding. Since I prefer a natural, classic look, this design was exactly what I was looking for. Plus, when it comes to a bag for my most cherished belongings, I want to choose something reliable that will last for years. Since each 〈Luniform〉 bag is meticulously crafted by artisans and has passed rigorous testing, the quality is, of course, impeccable. It’s a bit pricey, but this is exactly the kind of item that seems like it will boost my spirits. I have a feeling I’ll be relying on it a lot this summer.
