Walpurgis's Turning Point.
It’s been 13 years since that happy ending with a bitter aftertaste. I went to see the long-awaited official sequel late at night on opening day. I’ll hold off on sharing my thoughts for now, but the spectacular visual presentation by top-tier creators like Shaft and Inu Curry alone makes it worth seeing in theaters. I plan to go see it again soon to piece everything together. All in all, it’s an anime that really makes you want to analyze it.

How to Think About Vintage Clothing.
It’s not uncommon to see clothing designed with vintage pieces as a reference, but 〈Founder〉 takes a slightly different approach. This is because, while most brands reproduce vintage pieces by smoothing out their imperfections to make them more wearable and polished, 〈Founder〉 deliberately embraces those imperfections as design elements. For example, the half-zip sweatshirt pictured here makes use of the distortion unique to vintage clothing—caused by repeated wear—as a design element. As a result, the half-zip, which should run straight down the center, is warped and runs diagonally; this adds a pleasant sense of incongruity and depth to the styling. Neat and orderly clothes are fine, but personally, I prefer pieces with a slightly imperfect edge—they have more charm, and they’re more fun to style. Since 〈Founder〉’s clothes are packed with that kind of charm, I can’t help but reach for them.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve become more conscious of things like how comfortable my clothes feel and body odor—but that’s exactly when merino wool comes in handy. This T-shirt was created through a collaboration with Hokuto City in Yamanashi Prefecture. While I appreciate that sustainable approach, to be honest, I was simply drawn to the beautiful color. I’ve written many times in this column about my unparalleled love for shorts. Perhaps that’s why, come summer, my Instagram inevitably ends up filled with posts about shorts. It was among these that I came across this photo. 〈Apéro〉 is a lifestyle brand launched in the summer of 2024. While paying homage to the French “Calson” (underwear) style, it also draws inspiration from the culture of the aperitif, aiming to “create connections with people and spaces for conversation” through its clothing. Made from a wool tropical fabric with supple body and a soft drape, they have an elegant look. I went to an Azymuth concert the other day. Their unique groove—where jazzy, funky bass and drums intertwine with ethereal keyboards—is truly one-of-a-kind. When I go hiking, I want to keep my pack as light as possible. That way, I can move more freely and enjoy the mountains even more. It’s what’s known as “UL hiking.” While getting into UL, I discovered an air sack that weighs just 20g. It’s a simple sack that combines lightweight, durable Dyneema® with breathable mesh. Part of the fun of UL is thinking about how to use these simple items—stripped of all unnecessary elements to save weight. Lately, I’ve been reflecting on the act of walking and paying attention to whether I’m using my feet in a way that’s natural to humans. When I go out, I almost exclusively wear barefoot shoes. As a result, I’ve come to want to “train” my feet even while I’m at home. That’s when I picked up a pair of *Kodomamu* *ashihana*. “Ashihana” are heel-less sandals—similar to straw sandals—that are said to have been used by samurai, farmers, and fishermen since around the Kamakura period.
