MEETING AFTER A LONG TIME It’s been a while since we last saw each other, and it’s been a while since we last spent time together.
She arrived first. As she was drinking bottled water by a tree, she spotted him pushing his bike. It had been a while since they’d seen each other, and smiles naturally spread across their faces. There was no need to rush through conversation to fill the silence; good vibes flowed naturally. The vents in her jacket allowed the heat that had built up from walking to escape. His poncho, too, was made of a three-layer fabric that prevented moisture from building up. Even in this brief moment of standing still after their walk, their clothing worked to make them feel comfortable.
After exchanging a word or two about what’s been going on, they park their bikes. His is sand beige and brown; hers is brown and green. Though the colors are different, they both blend seamlessly into the serene autumn scenery. The hem of the large poncho features a design that allows the fastening to be adjusted so it can easily cover the backpack she’s carrying. She stows her small items in the zippered pocket of her bag and readjusts her grip on the water bottle. What should we do now? Having met up, the two of them walk toward the lawn while chatting.
