New Value Created in Yokohama. What is the appeal of the reborn Tomorrowland?

The Tomorrowland Lumine Yokohama store reopened on March 1, 2012. Inside the brighter, wider, and easier-to-see store, clothes clad in an aura of elegance are lined up at a comfortable distance, and the staff handling them enjoys fashion and interacting with customers with smiles on their faces. In this first installment, we asked some of the store's key personnel some questions about the store. What should we look for in a store? And what is the appeal of the products? What are the best things about Tomorrowland, as told by the people working on the shop floor?

A "casual" mood that brings people together.

First of all, please tell us your titles and what you do.

Our department handles everything related to the operation of the store. I am in charge of supporting the store and thinking about how to grow the store.

Sugiura (section of Hyogo Prefecture)I am Sugiura, the manager of this store. While working at this store, I also belong to the Retail Sales Department, which Nakayama just talked about.

Sato.Hi, my name is Sato and I am the Women's Manager of this store. I am also a member of the Retail Sales Department as well, supporting various stores and planning sales.

Tomorrowland LUMINE Yokohama store reopened on March 1. What do you think is the attraction of the renewed store?

Sugiura (section of Hyogo Prefecture)The most important thing is that the store has been reborn as a comprehensive Tomorrowland store in the Yokohama area. Visitors to the store can see the entire lineup of the original brand. In other words, it represents Tomorrowland in all its glory. Also, as a store rooted in the community, you can complete your shopping in Yokohama without going to Tokyo. This place serves as a base for stores in Kanagawa.

The area has a good balance of classic and casual items.

In the sneaker area, "Golden Goose," which is associated with Tomorrowland, was on display.

We were very particular about the interior design, so even if there were a store with the same site area, it would appear larger than it is. We also put a lot of effort into making the store easy to enter and easy to see the merchandise.

How about women's wear?

A women's casual area featuring a mix of house brands present within Tomorrowland.

Sato.We are still proud of our product lineup, as it includes all of our original brands, just as we do with our men's lineup. We can offer both on- and off-duty clothing in LUMINE. It is cool to look at clothes in a place with a sense of tension like a street store, but here we hope that our customers will feel a familiar and casual mood rather than a formal one.

Did the staff who work here share their opinions about the store's interior design and how to make it easier to see?

We wanted to create a higher grade of presentation here," "We wanted this space to showcase a good selection of products," "We wanted this space to be spacious and relaxing," etc. The head office staff and the store staff shared their opinions with each other as we proceeded.

The closing area is located in the men's redeep. It is a luxurious space where you can enjoy shopping at your leisure.

How is the response from customers to your new restaurant?

Sugiura (section of Hyogo Prefecture)The new shop is brighter than before, and we often receive comments from customers that it is easy to enter the shop. The store is now brighter than before, and we often receive the comment, "It's easy to enter the store.

Sato.Some people say, "The amount of merchandise makes shopping more fun," or "It looks beautiful. They say, "I used to have to go to many different stores to find what I wanted, but now I can complete my shopping here. Some customers don't even realize that it is a single store because it is so spacious, and I feel that they really enjoy shopping here.

Sugiura (section of Hyogo Prefecture)I feel that the store has become a place where people call people to come. Other customers enter the store in response to the fashion-loving staff or the sight of customers enjoying their shopping. Many people are inspired by the mood created by others and come to the store.

Interact with customers with passion. Maintain a good sense of distance.

What kind of staff do you have here?

Sugiura (section of Hyogo Prefecture)We have a wide variety of staff members, so it is difficult to categorize all of them as "this type. We want the restaurant to be rooted in the local area, and many of our customers live in Kanagawa, so the staff who originally worked at the restaurant are still here. However, we also need to bring in a new style, so some of our staff have come here from other stores.

Sugiura (section of Hyogo Prefecture)After that, the goal of all the staff at the restaurant is to "make a good first impression. It's a basic thing, but it's important to be able to greet people properly and to have a nice smile. All staff members are working on these things. In addition, as I mentioned earlier, we have staff with experience in Yokohama, so I think there is a homey atmosphere here. Of course, they understand the severity of the work, but they do what they have to do. We have such a mature staff.

Are there any things that you are conscious of when serving customers?

Sugiura (section of Hyogo Prefecture)As I just mentioned, we should greet our customers and be attentive to their manners while serving them. I think it is important to do this in a healthy and wholesome manner. It is difficult to embody this by simply doing our jobs. In other words, we must be passionate about what we do. I believe that this is the mindset we need to have in order to entertain our customers.

Sato.I would like to maintain an appropriate distance. I want to maintain an appropriate distance. Some customers are shy, so I don't want to get too close, but I also don't want to be too far away from them. I want to keep a good and natural distance to show them that I am ready to guide them. By doing so, I think they will feel comfortable.

Elegance" is an element that Tomorrowland embraces.

This may not have much to do with the renewal, but how do you see the appeal of the products placed here as one of the important elements that make up the store?

Sato.I think our customers feel this as well. Women in particular are sensitive not only to the design of clothes but also to their comfort. They are satisfied with our products, and at the same time, they say that the silhouette does not change even after washing, and that they can be worn for a long time. I actually feel this when I wear our clothes, and that is also why I can recommend them.

Sugiura (section of Hyogo Prefecture)The quality of the product is acceptable for customers of all ages, even those who have shopped a lot in the past.

While trends are being digested at a rapid pace, I feel that there is something in Tomorrowland's products that is unwavering. For example, even traditional-style clothes are rich in color and the use of patterns is pop, giving them a somewhat free mood. What is the essence of "Tomorrowland's character" that is different from universality?

Our products are beautiful and have a solid manufacturing background. These are the products we make. As for what we buy, we pick up clothes that are made in a way that we cannot make ourselves. We do this with a sense of respect.

Sugiura (section of Hyogo Prefecture)I have been working at Tomorrowland for 20 years now, and this store is a perfect example of the universal traditional style. This is the base of the store, and then we play with colors and patterns.

Sato.I think there is something "Tomorrowland-like" in the way the balance is struck with the basics. I think that is what "elegance" is all about.

I see. You are not trying to strike a good balance, but rather expressing basics with an approach that is based on the premise of your own personality.

Our founder was deeply impressed by this phrase, which means, "The essence of elegance and grace is always pure and simple. In short, we have been consistent in this since our foundation.

We hope that people will say that Tomorrowland at LUMINE Yokohama is the best.

Lastly, I know you just renovated the store, but what do you have in mind for the future of the store?

The space, products, and staff are all linked to create a comfortable space. By doing so, we will gain customer satisfaction. Also, Yokohama is a traditional town, so we would like to be a store that offers suggestions that fit the style of the town, while at the same time offering new discoveries.

Sato.I want to be a restaurant that continues to meet expectations. This is true in the area of service, and as Nakayama just mentioned, we want to be a place where you can find something new every time you come here. It could be the products, the way the staff dresses, or anything else. I will do my best not to neglect the preparation for that.

Sugiura (section of Hyogo Prefecture)I would like to make this store a place where more and more customers can learn about Tomorrowland. Of course, I believe that the content of the store will be equally appealing to customers in Yokohama who have been coming to the store in the past. Our staff will work as one to make this a store where customers can say, "Tomorrowland at LUMINE YOKOHAMA is the best.
