HOUYHNHNM RUNNING CLUB♡ verified stiffly! Do you need compression tights?

Compression tights apply pressure to the body, suppressing unnecessary vibration of the muscles and reducing unnecessary energy consumption. We often hear about the benefits of compression tights, but when we see people wearing them, they seem cumbersome and lack a sense of freedom. . However, it would be wrong to deny the benefits of compression tights without wearing them. So, we thoroughly examined the recently announced collaboration model between "C3fit" and "The North Face. We tested it in the field with two of HOUYHNHNM RUNNING CLUB♡♡s members and Ayako Murai, who is in charge of development.

Born in 1982, he is in charge of planning and development for "C3fit" at GOLDWIN. He has been trail running for about 8 years and has completed 100-mile races such as UTMF and UTMB.

To be honest, I'm not comfortable with tights....

Yamamoto.. I apologize for being so abrupt, but let me start with a frank story. I have a bit of a resistance to tights. Both visually when I put them on and in terms of the image of comfort, as if they are constricting and painful.

landlocked masu salmonI am exactly the same way, and to be honest, I have avoided it until now. . I simply think that bare feet are more comfortable.

village wellI understand. There are not a few people like that these days .

Yamamoto.Trail runners in particular tend to shy away from it.

ND5_3951

landlocked masu salmonI have a feeling that core trail runners, even though they know tights are functional, think it is cool not to rely on them.

village wellYou are right. In fact, for runners and trekkers with more experience and leg strength, there may be a tendency to stop wearing compression tights. . that is, with a better understanding of the function of the tights and their own body. . I myself have been trail running for 8 years, but I don't wear them much anymore except for long races.

Yamamoto.Wow, Mr. Murai, who is in charge of the development of C3fit, doesn't he himself always wear tights when he runs?

village wellYes.... However, recently, I have seen many people who only wear "no tights" style and think that they can get into the best condition by relying on the function of tights (see ......). I feel that this is a waste of time and money. I think this is a waste of time.

What are the benefits of wearing tights?

Yamamoto.Should even casual runners like us wear tights?

village wellYou two are going to run the UTMF at the end of April, right? I'm not an easy runner at all (laughs).

Yamamoto.Well, I see (laughs).

village wellAnyway, I hope you will consider wearing tights as well for a long race like UTMF.

landlocked masu salmonWhat are the benefits of wearing tights?

village wellThere are many different types of tights, but the general idea is to reduce muscle vibration during exercise, thereby reducing fatigue. in long races over 100 km, there will be situations where your body cannot compete on its own. When this happens, wearing tights will help you go longer and farther.

Yamamoto.Did you ever wear tights when you participated in a long race like 100 miles?

village wellI have worn tights in every 100-mile race I have entered so far. . I feel that they were very helpful in keeping my body in good shape, especially in the UTMB, where the average elevation is higher.

The benefits of tights are not only functional, such as supporting joints and maintaining performance, but also protect the legs from abrasions from falls and rashes from plants.

ND5_4195

landlocked masu salmonI see. I'd like to rely on what I can rely on. This will be our first 100-mile UTMF, and I'm looking forward to it, but I'm also very anxious.

Yamamoto.I want to finish the race even if I die, right?

village wellI understand that trail runners value style and spirituality, but rather than dismissing them out of hand, I would like them to know the benefits of wearing tights and then feel free to choose whether or not to wear them.

. it is the beginners in running and mountaineering who should wear tights.

landlocked masu salmonIn terms of style, the "tights-only" look has become common among women runners.

Yamamoto.Yes, it's true, I've seen it really often.

ND5_3999

village wellMany men are still resistant to it. If so, there are many ways to wear them, such as wearing them under long pants or layering them with shorts. . But you can still enjoy the benefits of wearing tights.

landlocked masu salmonBy the way, should I wear tights even if I am a beginner who just started running?

ND5_4254

village wellOf course! It is the beginners who don't exercise much on a regular basis who should wear tights.

Yamamoto.Oh , I see.

village well. For example, maybe you won the Tokyo Marathon and decided to try a full marathon for the first time, or maybe you don't normally exercise but your friends invited you to climb Mt. . I would recommend wearing tights as a means of improving performance for such people as well.

landlocked masu salmonThere seem to be quite a few people like that .

village wellTights are also a good piece of gear that can prevent injuries before they happen and take you into uncharted territory.

Tights in collaboration with The North Face. How are they?

Yamamoto....So, today, in the brisk spring weather, I ran about 30 km from Jinma to Takao wearing The North Face and C3fit's collaboration tights. How did it go, Mr. Enomoto?

ND5_3849

landlocked masu salmonThey were very flattering and easy to put on. I tried on the half-length version, and while it felt well supported around my hip bones, it was not at all tight.

Yamamoto.. I wore the long length one, and indeed, it did not feel tight at all.

ND5_4333

landlocked masu salmonAnd most importantly, the hems of regular shorts inevitably flap around, but the tights fit snugly around the thighs, making them very light on the feet. This is a good thing.

village wellYes, that's right. Regardless of body type, many people are concerned about skin slippage on the inner thighs when running long distances, but tights eliminate this problem. They are really reasonable sportswear.

ND5_4224

landlocked masu salmonMoreover, the half-length makes it much less embarrassing to wear a pair of tights. This was a new discovery.

Yamamoto. The North Face's original camouflage pattern is also very nice. . And what's more, the side pockets on the outside of the thighs are very convenient! This is extremely convenient!

ND5_3919
ND5_3826

landlocked masu salmonThese pockets are great. My phone fits in it perfectly , and it's easy to get in and out.

Yamamoto. It would also be useful for gels and other small trash at the races.

landlocked masu salmonThe long length one has a button and zipper on the front , right?

Yamamoto.Yes . The buttons and zippers make it easy to take off and put on, to go to the bathroom smoothly, and to loosen them quickly when your stomach gets bloated after eating. It's very thoughtful, even down to the smallest detail.

ND5_3734

village wellI'm glad you like them. We hope you will make use of these tights in the UTMF, which will be the first 100 miles for both of you. We hope you will be able to finish the race!

landlocked masu salmonYes, I will finish the race even if I die!

Yamamoto.I have to make sure I don't drink too much the day before, like I usually do (laughs).

These support tights are the result of a collaboration between C3fit and The North Face. Based on the lightweight and highly supportive "Element Air Long Tights," these tights feature lightweight woven stretch material on the sides of the thighs and waist to provide excellent support and flexibility to follow the body. There are two versions, half-length and long-length, both with side pockets on the outside of the thighs. In addition to the all-black version, a version with The North Face's original camouflage pattern is also available.
