THE GUIDE HOW TO USE "Samsonite RED"

What kind of individuality did stylist Katsuyuki Honjo find in Samsonite Red?

Whether it is real or fantasy, stylists are always thinking about the stylish and fresh image of men, and they give shape to this vague image by relying solely on their own sensibilities. For them, even a single item can serve as an important hint. Take, for example, the "Samsonite Red" bags favored by city dwellers. The design, quality, and ease of use......, Katsuyuki Honjo's imagination and the four styles that he has drawn from them.

Katsuyuki Honjo

Born in Tokyo in 1978. After studying under Ryoji Honma, he became independent in 2004. His signature style is a somewhat nerdy but noble style using earth colors and vintage clothes. She is energetic in her work for magazines, brand catalogs, advertising visuals, and styling for artists and celebrities, and is always on the move in Tokyo with a large bag in her hand. She is currently looking for new assistants, so please contact her office, B-Natural, if you are interested in joining her team.

I thought, "Samsonite's tradition and prestige have been passed down from generation to generation.

How has your own bag selection process changed over the years of working as a stylist?

manorI used to like tote bags and used to use them a lot, but I rarely use them these days. I use them as tool bags, but I don't carry them around town anymore. For shopping, I only need a shopping bag. For work, on the other hand, I mainly use a large-capacity 3-way bag.

In your profession, stylists can't choose a bag just from the fashion aspect, can they?

manorThat's right. When you do a job like ours, the amount of luggage changes a lot during the course of a day. We may have a lot of leased items in the car that we have to take out to return them, and when we are done with that, our luggage is empty all at once. I think that's why I've come to use something that can handle a relatively wide variety of situations.

Do you have a sense of using the bag as part of the décor?

manorNot so much now, I guess. Practicality is still my priority. I used to carry a messenger on my back, but I don't ride a bicycle much these days, so I don't use it anymore.

I feel that your personal itinerary is also reflected in the styling of the "Samsonite Red" bag.

manorYes, that's right. I felt that the tradition and prestige of the Samsonite brand, which was born from a long-established company, has been passed down to the next generation. The fabrics and sewing are solid and well-made, and the bags are heavy in a good sense. But when you actually look at them with styling in mind, they are quite modern. It had a sense of security similar to Samsonite suitcases, but it's not a classic, it's a more modern shape.

What were you conscious of when thinking about coordination?

manorOn a personal note, I usually dress casually, so I always have a hard time when I go to a fancy place. So for this project, I focused on a versatile style that can be worn to such places. It could go to a small hotel, and it would not look out of place with us when we are working. Samsonite Red has a solid brand history and is well made and designed, so I thought it would be suitable for places we wouldn't normally go.

All four styles have different tastes, but they all seem to give us a natural image of the person.

manorIf you think about the bag as the main object and work backwards to see how the bag will be used and what kind of job the person will have, you will naturally get a picture of the person. For example, the Nomad Carry 2 body bag might be a guy who wears rough shorts but is a bit serious, while the Bias Jack 2 clutch bag might look ordinary but is actually a man who is particular about what he wears. I'm a guy who looks normal but is actually particular about what he wears. I myself have recently been going to more and more meetings with just a PC case, and since the bag is so modern, I thought it would be just right to be as smart as that.

I guess we don't have many opportunities to think about styling from the bag, but how was it?

manorIndeed. But the more I thought about the bag first, the easier it was to envision the purpose. To be honest, my own ideal is to be empty-handed, and I often look for a bag only when I need one. I often look for a bag when I need one because I'm going to a certain place. The reason I often use a 3-way model now is because I am a stylist, and the places I go and the things I do every day are different, so whether or not it is convenient as a tool is ultimately very important. So, on the other hand, even if you always casually use the same bag, if you look back at your lifestyle, you will naturally find the best bag for you, and I think you will feel more fresh and new in your clothes.

Commentary by Mr. Honjo on how to dress.

STYLE SAMPLE 01

BIAS ATHLEISURE "3WAY BAG" ¥20,000+TAX(ONLINE STORE)

I chose a royal seersucker set-up to take advantage of its mature look for this 3-way model that can be carried in both business and casual attire. It is comfortable even in the sweltering summer heat, and the inner layer is a relaxed striped pattern. I think it would be well-balanced if I chose something as conservative as this for the feet."

STYLE SAMPLE 02

BIAS JACK 2 "CLUTCH BAG" ¥10,000+TAX(ONLINE STORE)

The bag's ample compartments gave me the image of a person who pays attention to details. The denim is old, well-worn clothes, and the beautiful white shirt is military used. At first glance, they may look ordinary, but I wanted to give them an air of being particular. I also chose elegant watches and shoes from this perspective.

STYLE SAMPLE 03

BIAS ATHLEISURE "TOTE PACK" ¥14,000+tax (ONLINE STORE)

I often use natural colors because they make my outfits look moderately rough, but here I used a chic black bag to tie together the khaki and brown wear. The bag has a large capacity and a modern shape, so even though it is simple, it looks stylish. To avoid looking too heavy, the material used for the clothes is lightweight.

STYLE SAMPLE 04

NOMAD CARRY "BODY BAG S" ¥6,000+TAX(ONLINE STORE)

The bag itself has a high design quality, so I decided to break it down where I could with the way I dressed, so I used shorts and badges that go well with the diagonal bag. I imagined someone who used to be a youngster but has now grown up and started to enjoy classic styles (laughs). (Laughs.) So I tried to keep the clean look, but also keep it active."
