Try your own original color! UNEEK is a three-way UNEEK created by UNEEKBOT.
The machine, which was installed at the select store BEAMS last year and was very popular, is coming again this year! The name of the machine is "UNEEKBOT. The name of the machine is "UNEEKBOT." It is a service that allows customers to customize "UNEEK," a classic summer model of the outdoor footwear brand "KEEN," with their favorite color scheme. Using UNEEKBOT, we asked Kento Nagatsuka of WONK, model Rika Vanessa, and stylist TEPPEI to try making their own original UNEEKs. What was interesting was that they each took a different approach on their path to perfection. What path did they choose? Please take a look at the three different approaches to UNEEK making.
Vocal of the four-piece band WONK, which weaves together jazz, soul, and hip-hop, her album "Sphere" was released in September 2016 and won the 9th CD Shop Grand Prize Jazz Award. This year, they are also scheduled to perform at the long-awaited FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL '18.
Rica Vanessa (model)
She is active as a model for various women's fashion magazines and web media, and as a member of ROXY GIRL, and has gained overwhelming support from women of her generation for her life-sized fashion sense and sophisticated lifestyle on SNS such as Instagram.
TEPPEI (Stylist)
After gaining popularity as a well-known staff member of the vintage store "DOG" in Harajuku, he made his acting debut in the movie "Mamiya Brothers" released in 2006. After that, he began working as a stylist in earnest, and has been involved in a wide range of activities, including directing catalogs and shows for many musicians and brands.
Case 01_Kento Nagatsuka (WONK)
A perfect balance of heaviness and pop.
There are many campgrounds in my hometown, and I have been camping and BBQing there every year since I was a student. I always ruined my shoes because I would go into the river without paying attention to anything (laughs).
Kento Nagatsuka, frontman of the band "WONK," which has been featured at various festivals this year, told us in a lighthearted tone. He said that for outdoor scenes such as camping, he prefers shoes that are easy to put on and take off.
Boots and such are a pain in the ass, and I get beans on my feet easily. That's why shoes like these UNEEK shoes are convenient. They are relaxing and easy to use. In summer, we tend to choose footwear with a punchy design. I like to make a statement with my shoes because my clothes are simpler.
Mr. Nagatsuka manipulates the UNEEKBOT while talking about such things. The UNEEKBOT features two base colors, black and gray, and a choice of neon pink, orange, and green for the upper in addition to the two aforementioned colors.
I often wear leather shoes, but I always pay attention to the sole when I buy them. I always pay attention to the sole when I buy shoes. So this time, too, I'm going to choose the color of the sole first, and then decide on the direction I want to go. But I'm not sure which way to go..."
After much trial and error with the touch of a button, they seemed to have decided on black for the sole color. After that, rather than using their brains, they continued to work with their hands, murmuring to themselves, "This is so difficult..." It was impressive to see them experimenting with various color schemes.
The concept was solidified! There is a common design in boots where the leather part is one color, but only the laces are accented with a different color scheme. I think I'll do something like that, using black as the base color with orange on the uppers to add a hint of color. I think I'm starting to see something!
With that, Mr. Nagatsuka begins to lightly tinker with the UNEEKBOT.
This completes the look! I like heavy footwear, so I used black as a base color, but I also used orange for a bit of fun. As I mentioned earlier, I like to play in the river, so I chose a color scheme that doesn't show off dirt.
The orange coloring is a combination of the heavy appearance of the black base and the lightness of the orange coloring. At first glance, these colors may appear to be opposites, but they are in perfect harmony with each other.
If more black is used, it would be too heavy and the orange would stand out." That's why I decided to use gray for the adjusters. The part I was most worried about was the heel. I had two choices: black or gray, but I was worried because they seem to be close in color and changing them would give a completely different impression. But it was the right decision to use black to create a unified look. It gives a tighter, cooler impression. This year I want to wear this with shorts and a patterned shirt to go outdoors and to festivals."
Case 02_Rica Vanessa (Model)
Three colors express the gentleness, beauty, and strength that women possess.
Rika Vanessa, born in Munich and raised in Shonan, is a model active in various media. She still lives in Hayama, where she transmits her culture and lifestyle. What kind of image does "Keen" have for her?
I have a strong image of musicians around me wearing "Keen" shoes. I also have the image that the customers at those places often wear them, too. I think they are loved by people who like the outdoors.
As for Vanessa's own summer footwear trends, she said that they will still be more comfortable.
In the summer, I often wear shoes without a toe. It's easier to put them on and take them off (laughs). That's why these UNEEK shoes are so good. If you pull the calf strap toward the upper, you can slip your foot in and out smoothly.
After that, he seems calm and begins to maneuver the UNEEKBOT.
The color of the sole completely changes the overall look. It's difficult to do. But gray is a limited color for this event, and since I'm going to go to the trouble, I'd like to include it somewhere.
After deciding on the color of the sole, the color scheme of the upper is designed. Looking at a sample of the actual cords to be used, she asked, "Which color do you think is best? She looked at a sample of the actual cords to be used and asked, "Which color do you like? On the other hand, when we asked her, "What is your favorite color? she quickly answered, "I like red and white.
The ones I have may be pretty much in these two colors. It might be interesting to combine various colors. It would be nice to have an actual sample to help me visualize what it would look like."
As we were talking about this, Vanessa suddenly declared, "It's done! Vanessa suddenly declared, "It's done! The gray, pink, and black colors were well distributed to create a pair that skillfully expresses feminine grace, beauty, and strength.
I heard that the neon color was also a limited edition, so I decided to include pink. Compared to other orange and green colors, pink seemed to be the easiest to match with my clothes (laugh). It's not too pop, and it's not too sweet. I think pink is a color that has a somewhat mature look. I would like to wear them at camps and festivals, but this color could also be worn around town! I would like to try a style with a girly dress and a contrasting top and feet. Since I'm going all out with this item, I want to emphasize my feet by making sure to show off my legs.
Case 03_TEPPEI (stylist)
UNEEK in elegant colors to match with high brands.
I saw this service at Beams in Harajuku last year," he said. UNEEK is braided, so if you mess with it too much, you'll end up with a vivid color scheme. You have to be very careful to make sure that doesn't happen.
Speaking in a clever and smart tone is TEEPEI, a stylist who has styled many famous musicians. He has done sneaker customization services many times, but this UNEEKBOT is something completely different from those he has done before.
I think it works better if I have a clear concept in my mind about what I am going to make and what style I am going to match it with. I think it works better if I have a clear concept in my mind.
TEPPEI looked more serious than anyone else, staring at the tablet screen. I got the impression that he was silently operating the UNEEKBOT after creating a series of images in his mind, and was making steady progress, step by step, toward the completion of the project.
'It's easy to do if you save screenshots or take pictures with your phone and keep track of your progress along the way. It makes it easier to go back and compare before and after colors when a color I tried doesn't work out. I feel that by doing this, I can get even closer to my ideal.
After spending a great deal of time staring at the UNEEKBOT, he finally narrowed it down to two ideas. One pattern uses a gray sole as the base color, with green and pink as the additional colors, and the other pattern uses gray as the base color, with black effectively incorporated into it to create a monotone look.
I thought, "At first, the monotone was more finished, and I thought I could still incorporate color from here. So I tried to incorporate neon colors. Looking at the colors, pink and green seemed to go well together, so I used those two colors. The base color, gray, has a somewhat beige feel to it, so it retains the outdoorsy mood typical of Keen, but it also gives a modern, sophisticated impression. I felt that if I were to match neon with a black base color, it would emphasize a very street-like color. But when I think about wearing them myself, I think monotone is the way to go. So I decided to go this way.
TEPPEI declared the completion of the project with these words. The finished UNEEK shoes have a somewhat elegant look for adults.
I don't wear shorts, and I don't like my feet to be light. That's why shoes like UNEEK are good. I like to wear a T-shirt, slacks, and a thin, light jacket like a shirt jacket on top, and I like to wear these on my feet. Leather shoes would be too heavy, and sneakers would give off a different image. Sandals would be too light, so the UNEEKs in this color scheme are very mature and elegant. I think they would look great with high quality clothes from a high brand.
