Playback of Fuji Rock Festival '18!

I am sure that many of Huinamu's readers have also been to the festival. Fuji Rock Festival '18 was held over three days from July 27 (Fri.) to 29 (Sun.) this year again, and closed with great success.HOUYHNHNMandGirlfwinham.Both of the "Mere Old Man" and "The Man" have reported the atmosphere of the venue in the snapshots uploaded earlier, but this time we look back on Fuji Rock Festival '18 as experienced by the members of the Huinamu editorial staff.

The live streaming has finally begun!

A total of 125,000 people visited the festival in 2018, including the eve of the festival.

However! The biggest difference from previous Fuji Rock festivals is that this year, live streaming on YouTube has started. While this is inevitable considering that large overseas festivals such as Coachella and Glastonbury have been doing the same for some time, it is quite nice to be able to watch live performances in real time in a cool, air-conditioned room without having to travel to the Naeba ski resort, the venue. In that sense, the number of people who witnessed Fuji Rock probably far exceeded this.

The newly revived N.E.R.D. is in Japan as soon as possible.

We knew from the moment Kendrick Lamar and N.E.R.D. were announced as the first artists to perform at the festival, but this year's lineup is characterized by a stronger hip-hop flavor than in previous years. The highlight of the first day of the festival was N.E.R.D., who had just returned last year after a seven-year hiatus, performing a setlist that would excite all fans, old and new, including numbers from The Neptunes, "She Wants to Move," "Rockstar," and "Get Lucky" with Daft Punk. The setlist included "She Wants to Move," "Rockstar," and "Get Lucky" with Daft Punk. During the show, he also expressed his gratitude to NIGO...! The most impressive performance at the Red Marquee was MAC DEMARCO, who came out to the powerful Star Wars theme song, but dressed in casual festival fashion, smoking a cigarette with a lighter given to him by the audience, and delivering the final line, "You're already dead. The last line of the song was "You're already dead. It was a great stage performance that conveyed his personality. Needless to say, his singing voice was great. Elsewhere, Post Malone, making his first visit to Japan, appeared on the White Stage. He was unknown until a few years ago, but when he came out and started singing "Too Young," the way the audience got excited reminded me of the momentum of the hip-hop scene in the past few years.

I never thought YOSHIKI would make a surprise appearance....

The artist that most of the attendees were probably looking forward to the most was Kendrick Lamar, the world's No. 1 rapper who won five Grammy Awards at the 60th Grammy Awards. The fact that no one moved and waited for the event to start was a testament to that. The editorial staff of Huinamu was also enjoying his performance, braving the rain as well.... When I casually looked at my friend's story, I saw the words "Skrillex x YOSHIKI". I had no idea that YOSHIKI would appear at Fuji Rock.... ENDLESS RAIN" at Naeba in the rain was the best thing I've ever heard! It was the moment when the greatest excitement by Kendrick and the greatest regret of missing YOSHIKI because I had been drinking hit me at the same time. After that, we took a short break for an hour and went to the Red Marquee. My destination was PRINCESS N NAM, which the female editor of Girlfinum told me I should definitely listen to! The sound and performance were powerful, and I was reminded once again that the energy of girl creators is the same all over the world. I was hooked on the serious tension of "Brujas," which I also heard at the venue, and am now, though completely late to the party, a heavy listener. But looking back, I really do listen to a lot of hip-hop....

The closing of course was BOB DYLAN.

The last day of the event was a complete change from the hip-hop-oriented second day, with ANDERSON.PAAK, JACK JOHNSON, and MISIA from Suchmos. I was so excited to see MISIA live for the first time that I moved forward to the White Stage in the middle of JACK JOHNSON. I was simply moved by her powerful yet beautiful 5 octave voice singing "BELIEVE" and "Tsutsumikomu yoni...". I was expecting a ballad, but the pop numbers sung by the band at dusk at Naeba, when the temperature had cooled down, were also very pleasant. The last song was naturally BOB DYLAN, whose stoic stage performance stood out from the many other artists who used flashy images and lighting to express their own worldviews, with all band members, including Dylan, in black suits and fixed lighting throughout. And I never thought I would be able to hear "Blowin' in the Wind" live.... It was the best ending to Fuji Rock Festival '18 that I could have imagined.

As soon as it is over, the Fuji Rock Festival '19 has already been confirmed! The dates are Friday, July 26 through Sunday, July 28, 2019. Let's soak up the afterglow with the official aftermovie and look forward to next year's Fuji Rock.
