Tempalay
In just one year since its formation, the band performed at the FUJIROCKFESTIVAL'15 "ROOKIEAGO-GO." In September 2003, the band released its limited debut EP "Instant Hawaii," which sold out in no time. wildernessMost of them are mass pubs.
Do the three of you sometimes go out for drinks on your days off?

wildernessWhen an idea boils over, we say, "Let's have a drink once!" when I'm stuck on an idea. It's not so much when I want to work out details, but rather when I want to come up with lots of ideas and materials. Drinking helps me to relax and have a good conversation. We record at a villa-like place in Chiba, and the engineers and I would start drinking together in the evening.
How to spend Halloween the Tempalay way.
I see that Tempalay and AAAMYYYY will be performing at the "JAMESON HALLOWEEN FES" on October 26 as well as FINLANDS, Newspeak, and HAPPY in a secret live performance. How do you spend Halloween?
wildernessHalloween, I haven't done much of it. It is a recently established culture in Japan, isn't it? Every year Shibuya is a big party place, but I've never been able to see it properly at that time of the year because the timing wasn't right. But I'm interested in that sense of lack of order, that one day a year when you can be anything you want to be. I'd like to give it a try.
AAAMYYYYYY, when you worked at an Irish pub, did you dress up for Halloween?
AAAMYYYYYOh, ...... speaking of which, I did a lot of ....... We poured drinks while cosplaying ....... Alice, witches, etc. I bought my costume at Don Quixote. The Irish pub where I used to work had a lot of foreign customers. It was a place where people who had enjoyed Halloween since birth came, so I felt a sense of warmth and kindness. In contrast, Halloween in Japan has a bit more of a party atmosphere. I think this difference is interesting.

I understand that AAAMYYYY, who was previously a support member, has joined as an official member. How did you meet?
climbing treesOur first encounter was vs. It was a late night event and we were performing around 1 am and AAAMYYYY was performing with the band at the time around 3 am. We really stood out. They were already looking sharp in everything from their clothes (laughs).

AAAMYYYYYI was wearing a crazy big tie-dye t-shirt, my hair was pink, and I was riding a kickboard.

After that, it was decided that Tempalay would participate in "ROOKIE A GO-GO" at the "FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL," and AAAMYYYY also participated as a band in the "Summer Soni! Summer Sonico? We were both starting to see results little by little. It was around the time when we were both starting to see results little by little.
Later, I ran into AAAMYYYY again at an event where a lot of my friends were attending. We were both having a good time drinking, and I was in a groove and said, "I want you to play the synth! and we exchanged contact information. We exchanged contact information, and we went into the studio together and played a few songs.

wildernessWe thought it would be more "interesting" for both of us. There is the coolness of being a three-piece band, and there is the charm of AAAMYYYY because we do not belong to it.
To use an analogy, he is like the Joker in "Batman". A character who is not the main character, but has a main-level presence. Overseas, there are quite a few musicians who are support but have a main-level presence and popularity. But when such a person becomes an official member, for some reason, his or her presence is sometimes diminished.

wildernessHowever, when I go out to the media like this, I am often asked to be a member only. That was not my intention, and if that was the case, I thought it would be better to have them become official members. The impact of AAAMYYYY probably won't change even if they become official members, and the balance has become unbalanced since the members left, so this was the best timing. Now we need to enclose them so that they cannot escape (laughs).
Did you have any hesitation in becoming an official member of AAAMYYYY?
AAAMYYYYYIt was a turning point for Tempalay, so I jumped in thinking, "If I don't get in now, I may never get in again.
Do you both feel that meeting AAAMYYYY has changed you?

wildernessYes, Mr. AAAMYYYY scolded me a lot. He told me that I was not a good human being and that I should not be an MC like that. So, I think I have changed a lot in the way I treat people. Thanks to Mr. AAAMYYYY, I am becoming more like a human being.
AAAMYYYYY（One of Lyoto's strengths is that he is a bit out of his element and his way of thinking is a bit different from others. I try not to crush those parts of him, but at the very least, I tell him when I think, "You should do this or that. I don't feel that I am scolding him.

climbing treesIncluding that, yes. I never had the idea of singing before, and AAAMYYYY probably had a big influence on me to think about trying it. I think the speed of my growth has also changed.

On September 26, your first mini-album "What a Wonderful World" will be released as a new group. Up until now, Tempalay has released albums such as "from JAPAN" and "from JAPAN2" and EPs such as "Summer time", "Instant Hawai", and "5 songs". The title of this album seems a bit different from the past albums.
wildernessThis title is a quote from the lyrics of the song "Wonderful World", which is the second song in this project. Well, it is ironic. Tokyo is a place of chaos, and many people have their heads screwed on straight. On the other hand, there is life to be born in this chaos, and there are many beautiful moments.
What a Wonderful World" is a song that says, "I live here, so no matter what I do, I have to live here," and I thought it would go well with the title of this album. I also thought "What a Wonderful World" would be an interesting title, like the Japanese titles of Led Zeppelin or Cream.

Is there a reason why there are no fast-paced songs? Tempalay's representative songs such as "Oh. My. God! and "New Generation," Tempalay's signature songs have a faster tempo, and even "Revolutionary Eve" seems to have a faster tempo than this piece.

wildernessBut "New Generation" and "Telepathy" are almost the same.

wildernessIt just happened. Maybe that was the tension. I wanted to bring out a bit of a frightening feeling. I think I'm a rock star.
I once read an interview in which you said, "I rarely create a product after deciding on a concept first. How about this time?
wildernessIt ended up being a mini-album, but in my mind, I wanted it to be a kind of foreshadowing before releasing the next album. So I thought it would be okay if there were parts that threw the listener off a bit.
It's not so much that we do it freely, but more like, "Do you understand?" in a sense like that. We wanted to make it challenging. Some people say they don't understand "Sonic Wave," which has already been released to the public.

wildernessIt was very surprising to me because I thought it was pop. It is quite difficult to explain what pop is, but there are times when I feel like, "This is too pop and weird. Or, "This is too sweet. I'm looking for a more exquisite bitterness.
Connecting this story with the Halloween story I mentioned earlier, Halloween in Japan is very pop in a popular sense. But there is something almost insane about it. What kind of sound will Tempalay make at the "JAMESON HALLOWEEN FES" live concert held just before Halloween?
wildernessUp until now, I've always had this weird cool way of wanting to do the opposite. For example, if everyone else was cosplaying, I would try going in my normal clothes. But recently I've learned the joy of adapting, so I'm thinking about cosplaying properly.

AAAMYYYY x Jameson collaboration song "STAY WITH ME
AAAMYYYY, as one of the artists collaborating with Jameson, you created the song "STAY WITH ME". What was the inspiration behind this song?
AAAMYYYYYThe first song I composed when I was approached was a very cheerful, party-like song. However, I felt that the people who actually drink at Jameson's were not in that demographic. When I think back to when I was working at an Irish pub, I think there were a lot of people who drank in a more relaxed atmosphere.
I also had an image of St. Patrick's Day (an Irish national holiday). On that day, a lot of Irish alcohol is sold, and I feel that Jameson is a drink that adults drink when they want to talk or be with someone. Therefore, I reworked the music to create a quieter image that is both chill and cheerful. The lyrics convey the message of the importance of dialogue.
Is creating music in collaboration with a brand different from your usual production?
AAAMYYYYYThat's right. When there is a theme, it is easy to create according to that theme. I am still conscious of creating good products, but when I can coexist with the theme, it is a win-win situation that makes me happy. Conversely, if the theme is one that I don't share, I may not be able to create well.
You will be performing as a solo artist and as a band on the same day for the October 26 Secret Live. Is there any difference in the way you prepare and put yourselves into it?
AAAMYYYYYI believe that solo is a place to communicate personal thoughts. There may be many ways to receive it, but I only state facts, and I do it as if it were my own speech.
Tempalay is completely different from a solo project in that I work with the two of them to promote what we have created together. I focus on how to bring out the best in both of us and convey the quality of the songs.
You have a solo and a band, and you also work in other support roles. I know that each of them is required to play different roles, but do you ever mix them up?
AAAMYYYYYI try not to mix it up. I try to match the chorus to the singer's voice, or the leader's tension. I often think about these things. That's why I intentionally change the way I sing the chorus of Tempalay and the chorus when I support Ryohu, for example.
I once asked Mr. MONJOE, who is active in DATS and yahyel, "Don't you get confused with so many projects?" He replied, "No, DATS is possible because of these projects. If any one of them were missing, DATS would not be what it is today, so I need all of them.
AAAMYYYYYI think we feel the same way. mon-chan (monjoe) has done a lot of work with yahyel and songwriting, and I think he is good at creating something tailored to each person, but I think DATS is a project where he can do everything he wants to do.
DATS is to him what solo is to me. Therefore, I would like to continue to work with the same passion for the band, solo, and support.
