ACROSS USA with TEVA

13 days in the U.S. that I traveled with Teva.

Vol. 8 of Huynem Unplugged went on sale on Friday, September 21. The theme of this issue is "70 things I want to do before I die. The contents will stimulate your intellectual curiosity, so please pick up a copy. You are sure to find plenty to share and discover. One of the 70 things is "crossing the U.S.," a 13-day bus trip from east to west, and here we present what we couldn't include in the magazine, along with the "Teva" that graced our feet on the journey.

The journey begins in New York.

Departing from Haneda, I took a transit flight to Beijing. After a 15-hour flight, I arrived in New York City. There is no other place in the world where such a diversity of races, religions, and values coexist except in New York. This is all due to the depth of New York City's nostalgia and its ability to accept everyone. Although I did not touch the latest fashions or the latest gourmet foods in this report, I was thrilled just by walking around the city, and that is the power of New York.

Teva's Ember Moc 2 is ideal for long trips.

Ember Moc 2 ¥9,000+TAX

From my departure from Japan to New York, I used Teva's Ember Moc 2. I felt that this model, which was renewed this year, is really suitable for long trips. The reason is that it is lightweight and can be used as both a sneaker and sandal since the heel can be stepped on.

Many Japanese people take off their shoes on airplanes and put them on every time they get up from their seats. The same is true at hotels. They take off their shoes the moment they enter the guest room and put them on when they leave. In other words, traveling is a repetitive process of coming and going. With the Ember Moc 2, you are free from the hassle of putting on and taking off your shoes.

A gallery-like store we stopped at in Soho.

M. CROW is a store I stopped by in New York City. It is a general store with apparel, household goods, and large furniture. The store was founded in Lostine, Oregon and has a history of over 100 years. Detroit is the city that leads American black music.

With the exception of Alaska and Hawaii, each of the 48 states in the continental United States has a different percentage of people living in each state, a different environment, and even a different climate. That is why each state has formed its own unique culture. Detroit, Michigan is one of the most unique cities. What is noteworthy is the racial ratio. Eighty percent of the population is African American, the highest percentage of any city in the United States. It is a well-known fact that African Americans have a good sense of rhythm, and as if to embody this fact, Detroit has a thriving music scene. Marvin Gaye and Michael Jackson both sprouted from Detroit's Motown music label, as did Detroit techno, as represented by Derrick May. Slum Village is also Detroit.

Jack White's Castle, built in the city of music.

Detroit has a strong image of black music, but Jack White, an essential figure in the 2000s rock scene, was also born in Detroit. In 2014, he opened a store for his record label, THIRD MAN RECORDS, here, and in 2017, an analog pressing plant was also added. A space surrounded by yellow and black goods and records. This is exactly what fans are drooling for.

Stay in Detroit at an authentic boutique hotel.

We ended up staying two nights in Detroit. The place we stayed was here at TRUMBULL AND PORTER. It is located away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Detroit and is very close to the Neighborhood, which is the talk of the town. On weekends, there are movie screenings, yoga sessions, and various other events. Above all, the breakfast at the attached restaurant is excellent.

Denver, Colorado, one of the nation's most liberal cities.

Denver's ban on marijuana for recreational use was lifted in January 2014. More than four years have passed, and Denver is now flush with tax revenue from marijuana. New buildings are popping up all over downtown, and the city is experiencing a "green rush," not a gold rush. But there is more to Denver than that.

Visit the workshop of a couple who make heavy-duty bags.

Winter Session was started by Roy and his wife Tanya, who worked as architects in Scandinavia. They moved their base from Chicago to Denver a few years ago, opened their own factory, and have continued their creative activities with a small group of elite workers. The two say in unison, "Denver has a good balance between nature and the city, and above all, it is a place where we feel at home. That is why they are able to continue to create high quality products. If you are ever in Denver, be sure to stop by.

The finish line, Los Angeles, was blessed with beautiful weather.

After 60 hours of travel, we finally arrived at our goal in Los Angeles. The city with its bright blue sky and forests of palm trees was the perfect place to recover from the fatigue of the 13-day long trip. Just standing there, the sun seemed to suck away the fatigue. As you know, Los Angeles is also a cultural center of the U.S., twinned with New York. Even if you stay here for only one day, you can find the spark of a culture that is about to become mainstream around the world. Let us introduce you to one of the best restaurants on the eve of the boom.

The second half of the trip was on Teva's Hurricane XLT 2.

Hurricane XLT 2 ¥7,800+TAX

In fact, I brought another pair of Tevas with me. That is Teva's iconic "Hurricane XLT 2. This summer's redesigned sports sandal has improved cushioning and a cushioned heel strap, making it comfortable to wear and walk in. I used to love the previous model, but was surprised at how much they have been updated. They are amphibious, so they have served me well on sunny days, rainy days, and even when walking on the beach.

And here are two pairs of "Teva" that have been worn together for 13 days and have developed a taste. I think Teva shoes look great even when they are worn out.

Be sure to check out the details of the U.S. crossing in "Huynem Unplugged," Vol. 8. In addition to the U.S. crossing, there is Everest, India, and spectacular scenery. There is plenty of content to tug at your heartstrings.
