Edwin and six New York creators Whole View of EDWIN Vol. 03

EDWIN's denim series, Japan Limited, is carefully crafted from the Japanese point of view, and the craftsmen's skills are meticulously applied down to the smallest detail. The reputation of this series is not limited to Japan; it is also highly acclaimed overseas. We asked six creators active in New York, the home of denim in the U.S., to self-style the Japan Limited. We will show you how they wear the three different fits (regular straight, slim straight, and slim tapered), as well as their comments on their commitment to jeans.

Kevin Jacob Kevin Jacob / Interior Designer, Vintage Dealer

Jeans are something I wear every day, anytime, anywhere," says Jacob, who is an interior designer as well as a vintage dealer. He wears rigid blue jeans for formal events and beat-up jeans for everyday use. He looks for jeans that are strong, durable, and long-lasting. In the interior design workshop, where hard work is required, jeans are a good companion.

Did you know about Edouin?

Jacob.Of course, I have known about "Edouin" for a long time. Even here in New York, they are well known as a quality Japanese jeans brand. I have heard very good things about the quality and design from jeans lovers around me.

Please tell us why you chose Lot.EDS03 non-wash.

Jacob.I do not prefer to wear tight clothes that constrict the body. When choosing jeans, I prefer classic designs with a comfortable straight leg. I wear them for a long time to make them my own. I don't wear black or white jeans, but only indigo blue jeans that have not been washed. For Americans, jeans are like a part of life that they have been familiar with since childhood. Yes, just like baseballs and apple pie.

How did you feel when you tried it on?

Jacob. The moment I first put my feet through them, I felt their comfort and ease of wear. I would wear them every day. I can wear this pair with a jacket and look stylish and clear any dress code in New York. Until now, jeans were not part of the New York dress code, but recently, non-washed jeans with no fading or damage have become acceptable. In other words, jeans are gaining citizenship.

EDWIN JAPAN LIMITED Lot.EDS03 Regular Straight Unwashed ¥17,000+TAX

What do you particularly like about Lot.EDS03?

Jacob. The "W" stitch running down the back pocket is cool. And the selvedge is a sign of the quality of the denim, so it is also something that catches my eye. I like the rainbow selvedge on these jeans because it makes them unique.

What are the key points of today's styling?

Jacob.I am wearing a vintage U.S. Army military jacket lining as an outer layer and a slightly oversized gabardine plaid shirt inside. This shirt was given to me by a colleague a long time ago and is one of my favorites. On my feet are the boots I wear on a regular basis. This is my usual style.

Cavier Coleman Cavier Coleman / Artist, Photographer

In New York City, where gentrification has progressed, Bushwick still retains the real atmosphere of old Brooklyn. Coleman, who lives in Bushwick, actively goes to nightclubs for dancing at night and to art shows when he can find the time. Of course, his art activities are also based in this city. A good jacket and a great pair of jeans are his must-haves to go with the many faces of Bushwick.

What is your impression of Edwin?

Coleman.I had heard the name "Edwin" for a long time, and it was one of the jeans brands I had always been interested in. It has a very high-end image that is both particular and classy. I can imagine men who take fashion seriously patronizing "Edouin.

Please tell us why you chose Lot.EDS32 in black.

Coleman.I like blue jeans, but I was in the mood for black jeans. The design is good and the silhouette is beautiful. I have a particularly small waist, but as you can see, the waist size fits perfectly. They look and feel perfect and I am very satisfied.

It certainly looks good on you.

Coleman.I have a hard time finding jeans that fit my body type, and I always have a hard time finding them, but I have no complaints about these. They fit my body perfectly. This was an amazing encounter for me. I like them better than any jeans I currently own. The fabric is firm enough to go with a small clean look. Like trousers that are jeans but fit you just right.

EDWIN JAPAN LIMITED Lot.EDS32 Slim Tapered ¥17,000+TAX

What do you particularly like about Lot.EDS32?

Coleman.Green, yellow and red, like rasta colors (rainbow) selvedge. It also looks great on black denim. It's nice when there are details that are usually overlooked. That alone raises the tension.

What are the key points of today's styling?

Coleman. The two necklaces hanging from my neck are the ones I wear at all times. The turquoise beads are stones to keep my creative energy alive, and a friend made them for me as a gift. The chambray shirt and Grateful Dead tour t-shirt are vintage. My feet are always in sneakers because they are comfortable and easy to move in. My style varies depending on my mood, but today it's my usual casual look, with black jeans as the star of the show.

Jay Rinsky Jay Rinsky / DJ, audiovisual artist and founder of the event Little Cinema

When he DJs at parties and events, Linsky wears dark blue jeans, a black T-shirt, a Basquiat necklace, and a hat as his standard attire. He says that he wears jeans almost every day. He wears jeans almost every day, so the dark blue color of Lot EDS33 fits easily with his style.

What is your impression of Edwin?

Lynskey.I have always respected Japanese design and creativity. When I first started DJing, I was fascinated by DJ Krush's technique and expressiveness, and was greatly influenced by him. The same creativity applies to jeans, and "Edouin," which represents Japanese denim, was one of the brands I wanted to buy someday.

Please tell us why you chose the dark blue color of Lot.EDS33.

Lynskey. The reason I chose dark blue regular tapered is simple. That's because I live in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, where all the hipsters wear black slim jeans, and I didn't want to be buried there (laughs). I dared to choose blue jeans in order to keep myself and my uniqueness.

How did you feel when you actually tried it on?

Lynskey.I like the fact that the fading is not excessive, but only moderately worn-in. The tapered, straight silhouette is also to my liking as it fits well with the body. I think this is one of those utility pairs that can be worn with any style.

EDWIN JAPAN LIMITED Lot.EDS33 Regular Tapered Dark Blue ¥19,000+TAX

What do you particularly like about Lot.EDS33?

Lynskey.I like the weighty and solid denim. It will look even better when worn in. And the selvedge, which stands out for its individuality, is a good point when rolled up. The great thing about jeans is that they can be worn the same way in any season and in any climate, and these jeans will be great for the coming harsh New York winter.

What are the key points of today's styling?

Lynskey.Easy-wear jeans, a plain black T-shirt, and brown shoes. A bomber jacket is thrown on to match the weather, and a hat and necklace add a personal touch. My job often requires me to attend celebrations such as film festivals, but I don't change my style much. I just wear jeans as usual and a tailored jacket to add some degree of formality.

Brian Davis Brian Davis / Owner, Wooden Sleepers

Davis' store is located in an up and coming area of Red Hook with stores such as art galleries and restaurants. It used to be an industrial town full of warehouses and factories, and is characterized by many strong men. Rigid denim, which is clean looking yet tough, fits in well with the atmosphere of the city. The summers in New York are too hot and humid to wear denim, but the fall and winter months are a great time to enjoy denim to the fullest. This is the time of year when Red Hook is overflowing with denim.

What is your impression of Edwin?

Davis.I was aware of their excellent design and particular craftsmanship. I was a little worried about whether or not they would fit my size since I had never worn them before, but when I tried them on, I was surprised at how well they fit. I work with vintage clothing, so I would like to delve deeper into the history and background of "Edouin" and enjoy these jeans more deeply and profoundly.

Please tell us why you chose Lot.EDS03 rigid.

Davis.I do not wear anything slim, no matter what the design. I prefer only jeans with a moderately relaxed, classic silhouette. Dark blue, non-washed, straddle-leg jeans are a must-have in my wardrobe, so "Lot.EDS03" is the obvious choice.

Please let us know what you think when you try it on.

Davis.I usually wear only unwashed jeans. This is because I believe that the real appeal of denim is to enjoy the process of fading and damage over time by wearing them myself, rather than artificially faded colors. I also like the classic, slightly high-rise design. In terms of the fabric, I get the feeling that they will blend in with my skin as soon as I put them on. I am sure they will fade beautifully.

EDWIN JAPAN LIMITED Lot.EDS03 Regular Straight Unwashed ¥17,000+TAX

What do you particularly like about Lot.EDS03?

Davis.Anyway, the silhouette is outstanding. I have been working out for many years and have thick thighs due to squatting, but these have a good amount of room in the thighs and shape just a little toward the hem. My hat is off to the calculated and beautiful silhouette, which is straight fit but not too thick.

What are the key points of today's styling?

Davis. When it gets cold, you'll need heavy-duty outerwear, but on a sunny day like today, an Ivy style with lightweight layers is just right. Vintage English swing top and an oxford button-down shirt. My favorite button-down shirts are from the 1960s to 1980s, and I wear them every day. On my feet are canvas deck shoes, and the vintage mix of denim makes for a great Ivy style.

Nikolas A. Draper-Ivey Nikolas A. Draper-Ivey / Comic artist and illustrator

Draper Ivy makes her living doing comic-like illustrations using black ink. Therefore, she always chooses to wear only black so that she does not have to worry about ink splashes or stains. In particular, most of the bottoms he owns are black. In New York, no one judges anyone else, everyone dresses how they like and everyone has their own unique style. Everyone is unique, and they accept monotone outfits," says Draper Ivy. The great thing about New York is that you can always be yourself.

Please tell us about your encounter with Edwin.

Ivy draperI love Japanese comics and illustrators, and I especially respect people like Katsuhiro Otomo, Katsuya Terada, Ken Obata, and Toru Terada. In addition, I am always inspired by Japanese creativity in music and fashion. I first heard of Edwin when I visited my favorite bookstore, which stocks Japanese comics, and saw its name in a Japanese fashion magazine.

Please tell us why you chose Lot.EDS32 black this time.

Ivy draperI don't wear baggy sweatpants, even if they are sweatpants; I choose pants that fit me well. Also, my style is based on black, so it was natural for me to choose black jeans. Winters in New York are very cold, just like in Michigan where I was born and raised, but these jeans are heavy-weight and warm, so they will come in handy in the winter.

Please let us know what you think when you try it on.

Ivy draperAlthough it is made of thick denim, it has a somewhat elegant atmosphere due to its crisp texture and slim silhouette. I think they would work well for casual as well as semi-formal occasions. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to fit into them because they are quite tight, but the fit was comfortable the moment I put them on, and I liked them right away.

EDWIN JAPAN LIMITED Lot.EDS32 Slim Tapered ¥17,000+TAX

What do you particularly like about Lot.EDS32?

Ivy draperThe sophisticated silhouette and pitch-black color give the jeans a smart impression, but they also retain the ruggedness of denim. The fact that both are well-balanced and contained within a single pair of jeans shows the meticulousness of the Japanese brand.

What are the key points of today's styling?

Ivy draperI wanted to keep it monotone and simple, so I wore black jeans, a gray sweater, and a black down vest with an accent tie around the neck to dress up the outfit. This is my image of minimalism and sharpness. Like the jeans, I chose items that fit well with my body.

Giovanni Bartocci Giovanni Bartocci / Co-owner of the restaurant Via Della Pace and host of the radio show

It is no exaggeration to say that tough and easy to move in jeans are the most reliable trousers for motorcyclists. That's why they are so particular about their jeans, and always need good-looking jeans that satisfy their needs. Giovanni, who runs an Italian restaurant in the East Village, is one such biker. He was looking for just the right jeans to wear while riding his beloved 2011 Harley Davidson, when he came across EDWIN Japan Limited.

What is your impression of Edwin?

BartolichJeans are like a partner for motorcyclists. I am always looking for jeans that fit me well, and I had heard of "Edwin" in my research. I didn't actually own a pair, but when I tried them on, I immediately fell in love with them.

Please tell us why you chose Lot.EDS33 unwashed.

BartolichOf course I ride a motorcycle, but I also ride horses in my home country of Italy, where I also own a horse. When I do such activities, I like to wear slim jeans. These regular tapered jeans have the perfect amount of room around the thighs and sharpness below the knees, which is the silhouette I am looking for. The fit when I straddle my car is perfect.

Please let us know what you think when you try it on.

BartolichIt's a fine, high-quality denim fabric. It feels good against the skin and is easy to wear. The belt loops are offset, the selvedge is used, and the attention to detail is evident. These jeans are a bit pricey, but they remind me of my grandfather's teaching: "more to spend, less to spend," meaning that if you buy high quality items, even if they are a bit expensive, you can use them for a long time and they will never go to waste.

EDWIN JAPAN LIMITED Lot.EDS33 Regular Tapered Unwashed ¥17,000+TAX

What do you particularly like about the jeans you wore this time?

BartolichThe vintage look of the denim texture and the fine details fit in well with my biker style. The "W" stitching on the pockets is also a good point of reference. Also, I always use suspenders instead of belts, and these jeans look great with suspenders, which is also a high point for me personally (laughs).

Finally, what are today's styling points?

BartolichI like American style, but on the other hand, as an Italian, I always try to include Italian elements somewhere. For example, I wear items such as motorcycle jackets, watches, and accessories made in Italy. I mix my roots with my favorite rock 'n' roll and motorcycling styles. My favorite pair of motorcycle boots, which go well with jeans, were handcrafted by my cousin.
