64 years since its debut. The untold birth story of 59FIFTY®.

The "59FIFTY®" headwear is now indispensable in the street scene. The crown, with its unique silhouette, the flat visor that stretches straight ahead, and the embroidered flag logo on the left side are all loved by many people as an item with a lot of charms despite its simple structure.

In the 1930s, New Era began manufacturing and supplying official caps for the Cleveland Indians and other teams. Later, New Era began supplying caps to prestigious MLB teams such as the Brooklyn Dodgers, Cincinnati Reds, and Detroit Tigers, and by the 1950s, New Era was the only company specializing in manufacturing caps for major sports teams.

The 59FIFTY® was born 64 years ago in 1954. Over the years, repeated improvements have established a style that can be considered the perfection of baseball caps.

It should be noted that the basic form has hardly changed since its birth. Professional gear is constantly being updated to reflect the needs of athletes. The fact that there are no more requests from athletes shows how complete the "59FIFTY®" is.

Baseball is not the only sport with which New Era has a close relationship.

In 1974, New Era signed contracts with 20 of the 24 MLB teams, and in 1993, New Era was granted the exclusive right to manufacture on-field caps for all MLB teams, and beginning with the 2017 season, all New Era caps will feature the New Era flag logo on the left side. Starting with the 2017 season, all MLB caps will have the New Era flag logo on the left side of the cap. This may be a sign of MLB's full acceptance of New Era.

But it is not only in the baseball world that New Era is active.

American football is a more national sport for Americans than baseball. The Super Bowl, which decides the top of the NFL, the top professional league, is televised around the world and is one of the most watched sports games on the planet. The NFL has officially adopted "New Era" headwear since 2012. The players on the field wear helmets, but you can also find "59FIFTY®" and other "New Era" headwear on the heads of coaches, managers, and players on the sidelines.

In addition to MLB and NFL, New Era is an official supplier to the NBA, the world's number one professional basketball league.

In fact, he was involved with a familiar Japanese sports team!

And in the world of professional sports in Japan, the "59FIFTY®" can also be seen. Did you know that the current official cap for one of Japan's professional baseball teams, the Yokohama DeNA BayStars, is a "59FIFTY®"?

New Era has had a contract with the Yokohama DeNA Bay Stars since 2004, and in 2017 sponsored the team's official game, "NEW ERA® Day 2017. The partnership between the two companies will continue in the future, so we will keep an eye on future developments. New Era" also produces official caps for the 11 NPB teams.

Traditional caps made by hand by craftsmen.

The 22 manufacturing processes, most of which are done by hand, are in fact an item in which craftsmanship resides.

This movie shows the 22 steps of the process. The process starts with cutting the fabric for each part, then tapes, mesh material called haircloth, and interlining are sewn on to ensure strength. Finally, size stickers are applied to complete the product, and you can see that the quality of the product is maintained by the careful handiwork of the craftsmen.

This is due to the fact that nearly 100 years of cap manufacturing know-how has been handed down from the past to the present, and "59FIFTY®" is one of the truly "traditional" items.

Sticker on visor. Leave it on? Or remove it?

After inspection, the sticker is applied at the end of the production process. Like the flasher sewn into the hip pocket of a new pair of denim jeans, it proves that the item is unmistakably made by New Era. In other words, it is a proof of high quality.

On the street, wearing a cap without removing the sticker is equivalent to wearing the guarantee as a medal of honor. In particular, the famous "NY" logo of the New York Yankees has been released by various manufacturers on similar items, so if you want to assert the fact that you wear a cap made by New Era, the only official supplier of caps for MLB players, you can choose not to remove the sticker. If you want to insist on wearing a cap made by New Era, the only official supplier of MLB caps, you can choose not to remove the sticker.

However, removing the sticker does not mean that the cap is no longer made by New Era. The essence is in the quality of the cap, and of course you can remove the sticker according to your taste and coordination. However, there is only one sticker per cap. Do you want to keep it? Or remove it? The choice will depend on what is important to you.

The best respect is to wear it in a cool and fun way.

One way to customize a hat is to bend the originally flat visor. 59FIFTY® is often worn with a flat visor by B-Boys and others.

In this way, wearing the visor as flat and new is one way to show respect for the brand and the item, but above all, we recommend that you wear it in a way that fits you and is fun and cool. By bending the visor to fit your face, you may find a new "59FIFTY®" style. 59FIFTY®" also has a silhouette called LP(Low Profile) type, in which the visor is pre-bent and the crown part is adjusted low.

Reason for the wide variation of sizes.

A famous fashion designer once said, "Feet that wear shoes that fit their feet never get old. The same can be said for hats. However, it is also true that most manufacturers offer hats in one size or two or three sizes. But "59FIFTY®" is different.

Here is the size chart for 59FIFTY®. The development of all 9 sizes is as detailed as a shoe. This is a system designed to improve the performance of athletes. This is an appeal unique to New Era, which has built a close relationship with sports over the years.

The rich versatility of "59FIFTY®" fits all styles.

Many people think of "59FIFTY®" as a cap worn by B-BOYs. It is true that many hip-hop artists have worn this item from the past to the present, but it may be too short-sighted to simply put it away as "59FIFTY® = B-BOY.

So here are eight styles using "59FIFTY®".

59FIFTY® ¥5,500+TAX (New Era), Seven by Seven jacket ¥125,000+TAX (unglobal), USED shirt ¥4,000+TAX (FAN), Universal Products T-shirt ¥11,000+TAX (1LDK), Sile Marshall bag ¥27,000+TAX (Reshop), other items by individual stylists (1LDK), [Sile Marshall] bag ¥27,000+TAX (reshop), other items: stylist's personal effects

First of all, "American Casual". New Era was founded in the United States and has been nurtured along with American history. Jackets with western details, plaid flannel shirts, indigo denim, and low-tech sneakers were all born in America. That's why it's hard not to fall in love with the American casual style.

(USED) tie ¥4,500+TAX (both at USONIAN Goods Store), Champion pants ¥8,500+TAX (props store), Paraboot shoes ¥42,000+TAX (Paraboot Aoyama store), Other items: Stylist's personal effects

American traditional" is another style that symbolizes the U.S. If the combination of a B.D. shirt and a navy blue blazer is a little too formal, the "59FIFTY®" is the right choice. The visor can be bent to soften the impression when worn to create a more sophisticated coordination.

59FIFTY® ¥5,500+TAX (New Era), Napa by Martin Rose jacket ¥126,000+TAX (Container Store), Seven by Seven hoodie ¥28,000+TAX (unglobal), Carhartt WIP Long T ¥6,800+TAX (Carhartt WIP Store Tokyo), Gourmet Jeans pants ¥23,000+TAX (Overriver), other personal effects of stylist

The "59FIFTY®" is also perfect for the "oversized" trend of today. The "59FIFTY®" is perfect for adding a street-like flavor to an outfit that uses a variety of colors, such as red, purple, and yellow, as shown in this styling, and also serves as a tightening element.

59FIFTY® ¥5,500+TAX (New Era), Carhartt WIP jacket ¥30,000+TAX (Carhartt WIP Store Tokyo), Seven by Seven shirt ¥28,000+TAX (unglobal), Namacheco pants ¥98,000+TAX (Container Store), other items: stylist's personal effects

Tight shirts and tight bottoms. The "59FIFTY®" is an excellent match for such a slim style. The dark tones of navy and black give the outfit a clean and elegant look, and the freshly worn cap blends in well with the style. The sophistication of the styling and the sportiness of "59FIFTY®" complement each other in synergy.

59FIFTY® ¥5,500+TAX (New Era), Tori Mountain jacket ¥29,500+TAX (Ranchiki Centrale), Universal Products T-shirt ¥11,000+TAX (1LDK), Crepuscule Hoodie ¥23,000+TAX (Overriver), [NEAT] Overalls ¥38,000+TAX (Nishinoya), [USED] Backpack ¥19,800+TAX (Safari), other personal effects of stylists

This is an outfit that incorporates "outdoors" into street wear. Coordinating only with outdoor gear is a bit too much, but if you incorporate only two or three items and wear a "59FIFTY®", you can make it work as street wear.

59FIFTY® ¥5,500+TAX (New Era), [A.P.C.] jacket ¥48,000+TAX, hoodie ¥39,000+TAX, shirt ¥11,000+TAX, pants ¥20,000+TAX (A.P.C. Customers Service) CUSTOMER SERVICE), bag ¥5,800+TAX (NISINOYA), other items: stylist's personal effects

In a "sports" style using functional materials and comfortable sweatpants, the cap can be worn backwards for a lighter look. A knit cap would be too light, but with a "59FIFTY®" cap, the look is transformed into a weighty coordinate that evokes a love of sports and tradition.

59FIFTY® ¥5,500+TAX (New Era), USED fleece ¥6,000+TAX (Ranchiki Centrale), Comfort Colors hoodie ¥3,900+TAX (props store), FTC rugger shirt ¥12,000+TAX, pants ¥13,000+TAX (both FTC TOKYO), other personal items. ¥12,000+TAX, pants ¥13,000+TAX (both from FTC TOKYO), other items: stylist's personal effects

The seventh style is "skater. The loose silhouette of the whole body is B-Boy-like, but it is for freely making up tricks. Skaters in bows are cool, but wearing a "59FIFTY®" and giving off the scent of culture is another chic technique.

59FIFTY® ¥5,500+TAX (New Era), Wacomaria jacket ¥69,000+TAX( Paradiso Tokyo ), Crepuscule knit ¥19,000+TAX, Marvin Pontiac shirt ¥32,000+TAX (both Overriver), sunglasses ¥21,000+TAX (Cootie Flagship Store), other personal effects of stylist

The word "B-BOY" is used to describe a wide variety of styles. What we want to focus on now is the luxurious and gorgeous "bling bling" style. The leopard-print fur jacket is a perfect example of this style. The standard "59FIFTY®" shines amidst the self-flaunting style. It is like a reminder that one should never forget the basics.

Music, sports, actors, and more. Stars from all walks of life are also patrons!

While 59FIFTY® is a favorite of active athletes, many in the entertainment world also appreciate the appeal of the product.

The first of these is JAY-Z. He can be seen everywhere wearing the 59FIFTY®. You can see him wearing "59FIFTY®" everywhere. Furthermore, his own label "Roc Nation" and "New Era" have collaborated with each other.

Actors Denzel Washington and Jack Nicholson also wear the 59FIFTY®. They seem to be enthusiastic fans of the New York Yankees and often visit the stadium.

David Beckham, the famous fashion icon and former England soccer player, also wears "59FIFTY®" in a sporty way. Even if he wears it casually, it is a great way to show off his style.

Spike Lee created a new aspect of 59FIFTY®.

Besides musicians, actors, and athletes, there is another person who loves "59FIFTY®". That person is filmmaker Spike Lee.

In 1996, when the New York Yankees reached the MLB World Series, he contacted Chris Cook, the current CEO of New Era, and ordered a red Yankees "59FIFTY®" for himself.

Spike Lee wearing the first "custom" cap, which was realized after negotiations with MLB, was spotted by 30 million viewers watching the game live and became a big story. The custom-colored caps of MLB team models, which have now become commonplace, actually started with this anecdote about Spike Lee.

Today, there are countless color variations of the New York Yankees custom model alone. He has raised various issues through his films, and has had a great impact on the sports world, and by extension, the fashion scene.

An inexhaustible collaboration regardless of genre.

Just as Spike Lee has greatly expanded the possibilities of the 59FIFTY®, there are currently active collaborations with various brands, stores, and artists. Here is a sampling of some of the collaborative items released for the Fall/Winter 2018 season.

Collaborations with globally recognized outdoor brands, car manufacturers, independent domestic apparel brands, and up-and-coming stores, regardless of genre, are inexhaustible. The breadth of these collaborations proves why "59FIFTY®" is the standard.

A variety of arranged items based on "59FIFTY®".

Finally, we introduce a family of items derived from "59FIFTY®". The basic design has evolved with various ideas.

The "LP" in "LP 59FIFTY®" stands for "Low Profile. In other words, the silhouette is designed with a low crown height. Like the "59FIFTY®", this cap is also used as the official cap for MLB players. The visor is pre-bent.

The "Retro Crown 59FIFTY®" is a classic style with a softer, lower crown by removing the buckram (core in the forehead area) from the "59FIFTY®". The rounded silhouette is distinctive.

The 59FIFTY® Trapper is a 59FIFTY® model with an earflap. The long-fur synthetic fur is soft and comfortable to the touch. The design harmoniously blends pop and coolness, and is an item that teaches us the joys of fashion.

Like the 59FIFTY® Trapper, the 59FIFTY® Dog Ear has an ear flap attached to the 59FIFTY® to cover the ears for protection from the cold and wind. The short fur is not too flashy and can be easily incorporated into coordinated outfits. The ear flap can be fixed with a hook and loop fastener.

The "59FIFTY® Flip Down," which uses knit fabric for the flip down (the part covering the ears), has a somewhat outdoorsy look. It is recommended as a warm-weather item during the cold season and for those who want to enjoy a little change in coordination.

As the name suggests, "Kid`s 59FIFTY®" is a kid`s version of "59FIFTY®". Wouldn't it be cute to see a kid wearing this, even if he/she looks a little bit smart?

My 1st 59FIFTY®" is, as the name suggests, an entry model of "59FIFTY®". It is designed with safety in mind by eliminating the top button and front panel core and using a softer material for the sweatband. This item also makes a great gift item.

We have thus covered the charms of New Era's famous "59FIFTY®" from various perspectives. As the saying goes, "Seeing is believing," so we recommend that you first go to a store and actually try one on for yourself. By actually wearing one, you will be able to see not only the design and quality, but also the appeal of this classic item, and realize why it is so loved by people.
