A few years ago, I bought a Balmacaan coat like this one from [non-native]. I often wore it because I liked its unique roundness, but it was getting old. There is no goal in choosing socks. It is hard to give up the comfort of five-toed socks, but taking them on and off is a hassle. The usual type of socks tend to sweat and get stuffy. There are surprisingly few performance-type tabi socks that combine the best of both worlds...but just when I was thinking this, I found a pair at the recently opened DESCENTE TOKYO store. That is DESCENTE's "Tabi 3D Running Socks. The socks have a three-dimensional design that matches the structure of the foot, and the toe and heel are made of NanoFront, which grips the foot due to the uneven surface of the fiber. The taping-like design supports the ankle, and features for running are placed throughout, such as the ball of the big toe and small toe relief to enhance the fit. The socks are also moderately thick, which is a nice feature that prevents size discrepancies with shoes, which is often the case with thin racing socks. I am planning to run the Tokyo Marathon in these socks.

New Balance" started out as a manufacturer of orthopedic shoes in 1906. I know that in recent years the company has been focusing on apparel, but in my mind, New Balance is all about shoes. The "WAIST TO TOE" pants collection was created to make New Balance shoes look beautiful. The lineup consists of five silhouettes: straight, skinny, slim tapered, wide tapered, and wide, all of which have a one-inch space between the shoes and the pants length. 360-degree stretch and water-repellent material is used, and the crotch part has a gusset specification that allows easy leg opening. Karl Obock (now in its fourth generation) is a metal workshop with over 100 years of history in Austria. Ever since I saw this sculpture at "Play Mountain" in Sendagaya, Tokyo, I have been interested in it. Not long after that, I read in some article that he said, "The better the tool is, the closer you feel to it. The design of a tool is to make people think that it is always there, naturally, without being too conspicuous, whether good or bad. Whether you call it design or not, a good tool has a good face," which made me like him even more. I would like to emulate this presence that radiates comfort without insisting on it.

The other day, I went bowling for the first time in about 10 years. The place was Sasazuka Bowl in Tokyo. Usually, bowling alleys are just a place to enjoy playing, but this place has a bar counter with a mirror ball inside, and you can enjoy playing while drinking alcohol and eating on the sofa seats in your lane. I first encountered the Auberge brand when I stopped by the Isetan Men's Building last fall. As the name implies, work jackets are work clothes, so they have a tough face that can withstand hard wear and tear. But what about this work jacket? It is based on the French work jackets of the 1930s and 1940s, with three patch pockets and a double front. Traditional handicrafts used to be considered as something highbrow and stuffy, but recently I hear that the number of young people who are into them is rapidly increasing. Certainly, antique markets and rag markets in the suburbs are all thriving, and there are even a few people around me who collect ceramics. I feel as if they have become much more familiar to me than in the past. Perhaps because of this trend, recently there has been an increase in modern Japanese traditional crafts that incorporate modern lifestyles and tastes. The Hasami-ware Soba-no-Inokuchi (buckwheat chopsticks) introduced here is no exception. The illustration is by Fukuoka-based illustrator NONCERRY, and is based on the image of a five-story dance floor, with each illustration based on a different concept. It is a very funky work of traditional Japanese craftsmanship. It is cute not only for daily use but also for displaying in a room as an objet d'art. It is an excellent work of art that perfectly blends the centuries-old Japanese sense of beauty with the sensibilities of the present.
