LONG VACATION From TENBOX/ChahChah

Tenbox and Churcher talk about trips, surfing, and collaborations.

TENBOX" and "ChahChah". They love surfing, having fun, and making clothes. No matter what they do, their hearts are always on long vacations... They collaborated to create a line of items using Lee's universal "Westerner" model. The idea, conceived by these travel enthusiasts, is something that can be worn as a staple in everyone's wardrobe for a long time. How did it turn out?

How much of our essence can we add to the universal design of the Westerner?

How did you all meet?

piguThree years ago, when I was waiting for a wave, Yuta talked to me in the ocean, and we had a short conversation there, but the next week, when a typhoon swell was just coming in, I went to the ocean alone in Shonan . The next week, when there was a typhoon swell, I went to the beach alone in Shonan. I went to the beach alone in Shonan. I asked him to go in the ocean with me, and we became good friends from there.

YUTAThe day before, I saw a picture of my friend and Mr. Pigu together on Instagram, and the next day I thought, "Hey, that's the guy who was in the picture with my friend. I happened to be standing next to him, and we started talking about our friends. And we happened to be standing next to each other, and we started talking about our friends, and that's how we started talking.

KOHEI. I still had long hair then.

Travel is the theme of this collection.

piguWe don't sleep anyway. We go to see things we don't know because we are very curious and meet friends in the area. That's why we travel an unusually long distance. As for the span of time we travel, if we are in Japan for three weeks, we leave. . It's like, even if I don't have anything, I'll go on a trip. It's difficult to find the boundary between "tenbox" and "work/play. Work and play go together, so we go with the same sensibilities. But in the end, it's all for fun. . I feel like I can't stay in the same place all the time, but I'm always on the move.

YUTAWe basically travel to California once or twice a year for work . Each trip lasts about a week, so we always have a lot of time on our hands, but this time we had relatively free time, so I think we were able to travel to places we normally don't go. All I do is surf, and in the summer that's all I do (laughs).

What was the impetus for this collaboration?

piguMr. Churcher invited me to join him.

YUTAWe first met at sea, and as we saw each other more and more, we started talking about what we wanted to do together. However, we were not able to come up with an actual plan, but Pigu and I both travel, and we thought it would be great if we could showcase a capsule collection of travel-focused items. We thought it would be good if we could show what we wanted to make in a minimalistic way. So we consulted with "Lee," and that's how it started. We also thought it would be interesting to do an exclusive project with FREAK'S STORE.

A frame from the lookbook. The photo was taken in Ojai , a spiritual town full of nature between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara, about 2 hours drive north of Los Angeles.

Why did you choose the title "LONG VACATION" for the collection?

CAORIWhen the collaboration was decided, we needed a name, and I said, "I think Long Vacation is good," and everyone said, "Great! And that's how we decided on the name. That's how we decided on the name. The origin of the name I came up with came from the fact that people always ask me, "Why does Tenbox go abroad so much? I was always asked this question at airport immigration. I am also asked at airport immigration and by my friends overseas, "Why did you come here? Is it a vacation? Vacation or business? . So we always ask, "Vacation! So we always say, "Vacation! . We always say, "Vacation! . Since it is always a long, long vacation, we thought it would be nice to do something with a travel theme.

So it's called Lombake Forever.

CAORIThat's exactly how I feel. Also, I haven't seen it, but everyone seems to remember the drama "Lombake," and they say, "That's good" and "Let's go with "Lombake" (laughs).

What is the appeal of "tenbox" from the point of view of the two charcters when it comes to making clothes?

KOHEIEverything is novel from the perspective of the way things have been done up until now. . I always think that not holding exhibitions is also innovative.

YUTAThe most important thing is the human appeal of the two. They are very interesting. I thought that if I could work with interesting people, I could do something interesting with clothes. The way they do things is on a level that breaks down the stereotypes of conventional brands, and they just move around and play. I respect him a lot, and I think the most important thing is that we both surf. There is a big difference between having that in your mind and not having it.

What kind of collaboration did the two members of "Tenbox" want when they received the offer?

piguI was told that I would be working with Lee's "Westerner," and I thought it was a great honor to be asked to work on a project based on the "Westerner. From there, I started coming up with ideas for this and that.

Why did you choose "Westerner" for this project?

YUTA. It's a very fashionable item in [Lee]'s lineup, isn't it? When the "Westerner" appeared in the 1960s, it was a boom among American Ivy Leaguers and was recognized as a highly fashionable item. I wanted to try using it, so I talked to Mr. Pigu and his team. We thought about how much of our essence we could put into a universal design, and I think the design is convincing even to people who like vintage.

Lee usually uses the work line's name tag, but for this collaboration, a special tag was created. This is a Japan-only release.

Have you changed the form itself?

YUTA. The basic base has not changed much. The shoulders are a little sloped and so on.

KOHEI. the other thing I did was to add gussets to the pockets.

YUTA. usually they have pockets without gussets. . and then there are pockets on the sides and inside, and so on. And then there's the bench in the back.
. The ration is not usually attached, but we added it to make it easier to move around. Also, and this is the most important point, there is a button on the back of the collar so that the reversible hat can be attached with a button.

pigu. We only make travel-themed clothing, so our design is basically backless. Also, we have skateboarding sessions during our travels, so it's easier to move around if there are ventilation.

. pants, but you are able to take off the knee part.

pigu. when we were approached about this, the design of the pants was the first thing that came to mind. When we talked about "long vacations," California, which we have in common, is cool in the morning and hot during the day. I don't take a lot of clothes with me on my trips, but with one of these, I can wear shorts during the day and stick to them when it gets cold. If you're riding a bike, you can also wear it even if you're only riding with one knee off.

YUTAWhat's great about these overalls is that this front pocket can be removed and used as a sacosh.

Women will be able to wear it prettily.

CAORI. I wear mine without pockets, but I think they can be worn in a more mature way. I am also thinking about how comfortable I can be on a trip, and I think the best thing is to be able to wash my clothes. People in California look good even when they are wearing dirty clothes. I hope that people will wear these items for a long time and get them dirty. Also, I would like you to try to make a difference with other items. If you are a woman, you can try wearing boots with it, or nails and lips to make it more feminine, and if you are a man, you can wear overalls with a sleeveless shirt.

piguWhen we make items, we often talk about making clothes that can sit on the ground. We do not make clothes simply for fashion, but rather for practicality, as in the case of work and military clothing. . As a result, the details are cool. That is exactly how we feel about this item.

The only thing I'm interested in is local culture .

By the way, why do you travel?

piguIn my case, I am bored. . and I want to learn about different things. We are not hip at all. All we are interested in is local culture. We prefer coffee at a Denny's to a trendy coffee shop.

Is there any local culture that you have found interesting recently?

piguI went to Costa Rica recently , and there was one thing I definitely wanted to drop in the next season. Iguanas. That is exactly what local culture is all about. I thought it would be cool to design an iguana. Iguanas are common all over the place (laughs).

What about the two members of "Cha Cha Cha"?

KOHEIWe like California. I think it's cool no matter what you see, like the space when you arrive at the airfield, and that's why we go there. I went to college in Orange County, so I lived there for five or six years. I started out in the U.S. with movies and music, and I love the whole culture, and I grew up there, so when I go to California, my blood starts to boil.

YUTAWe can only go together once or twice a year, but just going out and surfing together refreshes us and gives us new ideas. We know each other through surfing, so just surfing together brings back flashbacks of many things.

KOHEIMany things have changed, but the basics have not. We are going to feel that part of it.

What kind of travel would you like to do with the four of you in the future?

YUTAMaybe a surf trip.

piguIf I really wanted to do it, I'd have to get my mind off so many things, like not being able to get off the boat anymore. . otherwise, it's like a boat trip and surfing. . that kind of thing would be nice. I'm really preoccupied.

YUTA. It's the same when we're drinking or surfing. It is the same when we are drinking or surfing, and there is no rule that says we have to do something like this. I think the timing is right when we say to each other, "This is good! I would love to go on another trip with everyone.
