monessay - T-shirts in 2021

This is "monessay," a series of essays by Toshiyuki Tsai, publisher of Huinum and editor-in-chief of Huinum Unplugged. It is an essay through objects, so it is called "monessay." There is no twist, but it is not a poop, either. The column that had been serialized in a certain magazine for quite a long time has been discontinued, and a new column has been started in Huinamu. This time, I'm going to show you a T-shirt from "Archive & Style FOR BIOTOP".

No.26 T-shirts of 2038

ordinaryLast update.

just (e.g. "just wait here")Ah, this "last of the Heisei era" is a phrase that has been used here and there so many times already that it is full of hand-wringing. But thanks to that, we are going to have an unprecedented 10 consecutive holidays. According to the people around me, this 10-day weekend has not been well received. Everywhere you go, it is crowded and expensive. It is strange that the whole nation takes a holiday at the same time. I think it would be better for everything if the holidays were spread out, so please, the government, inject your energy in that direction.

comeAfter the 10-day holiday weekend, the media is full of stories about the so-called "May illness. Especially after a long holiday like this year's, many young people are sick, saying they don't want to go to work or school, and the number of young people falling ill increases. It is a kind of modern disease.

that (someone or something distant from both speaker and listener, or situation unfamiliar to both speaker and listener)Perhaps I am stupid, or perhaps I have no idea what I am doing, but I have no experience with this kind of thing. It takes a certain amount of effort to integrate into a new environment, but it is something that has to be done, so I have been doing it day by day without hesitation until today. So for those of you who are not doing well, don't think too much about it, just think that tomorrow is the next day, and the day after that is the day after tomorrow, and before you know it, summer vacation, Halloween, and Merry Christmas will be here before you know it. Let's put aside for the moment the idea that today, which you wasted, is the tomorrow that someone who died yesterday wanted to live to the death.

fifth sign of the Chinese calendarI first came to Tokyo to live a bit of a student life. Of course, being a "kappe" from a provincial city, I knew more about Tokyo from magazines than the so-called "city boys" who lived in Tokyo. Although there were not as many stores and information on fashion as there are now, I was able to accumulate knowledge by looking at magazines such as Popeye.

this (business organisation or place)The time was the cradle of DC brands and the American casual boom. 501 jeans were the norm, and three-pack Haynes T-shirts were considered the standard. Anyway, the origin of casual wear was considered to start here. I don't think there was a single person of my generation who did not own this combination.

Japanese dock (plant) (Rumex japonicus)But this Haynes 3-pack. The fabric was thin and the collars were easily worn out, but the feeling of being worn out was good. We were happy to wear them back then, with their long, stretched-out collars and yellowing, flimsy bodies. It seems a bit unreasonable to wear a T-shirt made for underwear as an outerwear T-shirt now when I think back on it.

(at sentence-end, falling tone) indicates a confident conclusionWhen I first saw the heavyweight T-shirts, I felt as if I was being told, "Japan, this is a T-shirt," even though it was not "Avengers.

Japanese dock (plant) (Rumex japonicus)I am too old to wear blue jeans and a white T-shirt. Even in the age of 2025, I still feel like I'm still in the Showa era, or I haven't moved a single millimeter from my longing for the United States. I don't usually wear white T-shirts because they are too dazzling.

that (someone or something distant from both speaker and listener, or situation unfamiliar to both speaker and listener)The T-shirt is the one you see here.

comradeMr. Sakata, who is also a vintage shop owner, took the best of the old stuff and went all the way to the U.S. to make this piece. As the owner of a vintage store, he took the best of old items and went to the U.S. to make this T-shirt. The ribs are tight, and the body is heavyweight and round, just like the T-shirts he used to wear in the mid-90s.

pocket computerThe mil-spec style name accent that peeks out from the kettle is effective, so I guess it's not too embarrassing. I wouldn't wear it with jeans, though.
