Why you should go to Bishop's Dezai Store, a beautiful cultural breeze.

Bshop offers a wide range of clothing and sundries that will gently accompany you in your daily life. Bshop is a wonderful store that has been proposing good living long before the term "Teinei Living" has been appearing in the media recently. This spring, Bishop opened a new store in Izumo City, Shimane Prefecture. Why Izumo? There was a sincere and core reason, which is typical of "Bishop.

Rooted in the land of Izumo .

Bishop's Izunokama opened across the street from the famous Izumo pottery "Izunokama. The story began when the founder of "Bishop" dreamed of having a store here while sitting on a bench in the "Kurashi no Toki Museikan," the store of Izumo Izumo Kiln. Bishop's had been dealing with Izushigama's pottery for more than 10 years.

After a long time of planning, the project to open "Bishop's Izunishi Store" has finally begun to move forward. In creating the store, we used as a reference the "Bishop's" affiliated hotel, "Bishop's".HOLIDAY HOMEThe theme is "a hotel where you can stay as if you were living in a home. The theme of the hotel is "a hotel where you can stay as if you were living in a home," and this time, the "Bishop's" style has been arranged with the mindset of a "holiday home," a space where anyone who visits can feel at home.

Two willow trees gracefully stand in front of the store, welcoming customers as if they were gates. The symbolic trees, ethereal and serene, are worth seeing now with their fresh green foliage.

Since the building itself is brand new, it is naturally brand new, but why does it also have a somewhat relaxed atmosphere? Some of the store is made of old lumber, and some of the trees on the ground outside were once used as railroad sleepers.

The store is filled with products that embody the concept of "everyday classic" that Bishop has always valued. As the phrase goes, "Clothing and sundries are tools for daily life, and they are things that will be used in people's lives for a long time, transcend time, and survive through history," the store is decorated with simple and evergreen items that fit easily into the lives of both men and women alike. The shop is decorated with simple, evergreen items that fit easily into the lives of both men and women alike.

HOUYHNHNM is also interested in many brands. Ocival, Danton, Oralee, Arc'teryx, GOLDWIN, Needles, Rhino, Buck Jack, Oathrow, and many more.

Basically, the lineup is the same as in other "bishop's" stores.

The limited-edition items to commemorate the opening include a crew-neck T-shirt and socks made with "Auralee. The colors are very rich and tasteful, and are typical of "Auralee," "Bishop," and Izumo.

The fixtures and furniture in the store are a mixture of antiques and new items to express the depth of the store. The reason why the shop does not look blurred at all in spite of the different eras is because it has been filtered through the filter of "bishop".

In addition to clothing, Bishop's lifestyle goods are a symbol of its uniqueness. Dezai's store also carries one of its signature brands, London-based "Laver and Wait," of course. Western utensils fit naturally into a Japanese-style space. Here, you will find a model of Japanese-Western fusion that can be easily adopted by anyone.

There is a small open space next to the store , and cherry blossom trees have been planted on the premises. There are also benches placed on the ground, so you can buy bread at the bakery "Le Cochon d'Or Denisei" (see below) and enjoy viewing the cherry blossoms in style.

The stone used in the stone wall surrounding the outside of the store is kimachi-ishi , a stone from Shimane Prefecture that was used throughout Matsue Castle and the castle town during the Edo period. It is said to be so valuable that the feudal lord was forbidden to take it out during the Edo period. . Even in these areas, the building is designed in such a way that visitors can feel the history of Izumo.

. as mentioned above, the deep relationship between "The Bishop" and the "Dezai Kiln" is well known. . From this point on, we will introduce a little more about the "Dezai Kiln," which is also a bearer of the culture of this land.

Carrying the thoughts of the masters of folk art.

The Izumo Kiln was influenced by the Mingei (folk art) movement, and was newly established after World War II with the aspiration to create folk art. After the war, a group of young people who wanted to do something creative and beautiful in their hometown began to make pottery in Izumo, where there was clay that could be used for pottery. They were introduced to Mingei (folk art) through a connection with Shimane-born potter Kawai Kanjiro, and then to Shoji Hamada, Bernard Leach, and other masters, and it was under their guidance that the Izumo Kiln took its current form.

The building in the photo is the Kurashi-no-To-mujiseikan, which was built by relocating and reconstructing a rice warehouse from the early Meiji period. Inside, a variety of ceramics are for sale, and visitors can easily experience a part of the "Dezai Kiln".

On this day, Mr. Makoto Tadano, a potter and representative of "Dezai Kiln," gave us a tour of the kiln.

Currently, there are a total of 23 people on staff at Dezai Kiln. Among them, 11 potters and two trainees are involved in manufacturing. It is a rather large workshop in Shimane Prefecture," Tadano said casually, "but it must be thriving, as many other workshops are suffering from a labor shortage.

The "Dezai Kiln" celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2017. Although the business now seems to be going strong, there were times of hardship before that. One of his breakthroughs was the opening of the bakery "Le Cochon d'Or Dezai" adjacent to the Dezai Kiln.

Le Cochon d'Or Izonishi" originally had a store in Tottori, but the owner, Takayuki Kramasu, fell in love with the Izumo area at first sight when he visited "Izonishigama" for the first time. Mr. Tadano was also shocked by the deliciousness of the bread from "Le Cochon d'Or" that he ate as a souvenir, and their love affair came to fruition with the opening of the store in May of last year.

At Le Cochon d'Or Denishi, tableware made at the Denishi Kiln was used, creating an organic environment in which food and housing have a mutually beneficial effect on each other. With the opening of "Bishop Izunishi," which handles "clothing," this time, food, clothing, and housing have been completed.

It is against this backdrop that Bishop's Dezai was born.

The land where each store is located has been named "Izushi Kurashi no Village" and attracts many people not only from within the city but also from outside the prefecture. The village is a place where people from all over the city and even from outside of the prefecture come to enjoy the attractive contents of a single shop, but now there are three shops here. This rare "cultural village" is a destination spot worth going out of your way for.
