The true meaning of Cretarmuusen's pursuit of functional beauty.
about KLATTERMUSEN with CEO.

The true meaning of Cretarmuusen's pursuit of functional beauty.

Scandinavia is an undiscovered outdoor powerhouse. There are many outdoor brands, and their simple yet stylish Scandinavian design has attracted the keen attention of highly sensitive people. Among them, "Krettermuusen" has established a unique position with its overwhelmingly functional beauty and use of materials that give full consideration to the natural environment. Where will Krettermuusen, which has entered a new phase in its 45-year history, go from here? We interviewed Mr. Gonz, the president of the company.

New models are rarely released. It is usual to upgrade existing models.

I have the impression that many of your items are excellent in terms of design, but is there anything in particular you are particular about?

Gonz:The design of outdoor gear is equal to its function. And function is determined by feedback from the field. When, where, and for what purpose do you want to use it? Therefore, our products are designed with functionality in mind.

Atre," one of Klettermussen's most popular models. The current model is 2.0, and this number marks the number of times it has been updated.

Gonz:For example, this Atre Jacket, an 800-fill-power down-filled insulated garment for warmth, was first introduced in 2005, and the 2.0 was released in 2015. What changed was the material, in other words, we were working on the material all that time.

Atre 1.0" was simply made of recycled nylon , but the current model "Atre 2.0" is made of recycled nylon.
. Mainly, a bionylon called "AURA BIO" is used.

Gonz:Although recycled nylon and polyester are recycled to make effective use of resources, they sometimes use environmentally hazardous oil in the process. On the other hand, "AURA BIO" used in "ATORE 2.0" mainly uses oil extracted from soybeans. Therefore, there is almost no impact on nature. We were the first to use such bio nylon for outdoor wear. . It took us a long time to release the 2.0 version because of its high cost and the minimum quantity we had to purchase.

. In terms of design, we wanted to make it packable anyway. So, first of all, I wanted to make it lightweight. Also, I boxed the seams to keep the wind from passing through, and I tucked in elastic on the inside. Another feature is that the adjuster is long. . This is so that in the event of a breakage, there is room for the wearer to make repairs themselves. Reflectors are provided on all products for safety. In this way, we always think about the purpose and role of the product first, and then decide on the design, in other words, the function.

Ginoa" is the most famous bag of "Krettermuusen" in Japan.

Q: Bags seem to be particularly popular in Japan.

Gonz:The Ginoa is the longest continuously developed backpack in our current gear line. . It features a small V-shaped aluminum part in the shoulder harness section, which we call the butterfly bridge.

The butterfly bridge is visible in the harness area above the left shoulder .

Gonz:Normally, when carrying a backpack, the load is placed on the shoulders. However, in this "GINOA," the butterfly bridge distributes the weight not only to the muscles but also to the bones and skeleton, such as the shoulder blades. Therefore, it is not hard even if you carry it for a long time. I think that the comfort of carrying a bag is important, but I feel that many brands are overly concerned with the weight or design of the bag itself.

The loops attached along the seams are synonymous with " Cretarmuysen.

Gonz:Although originally developed for climbing, the pack has webbing loops throughout for attaching accessories, as we want it to be used for a variety of other purposes. It is a pack that can grow with the user. No matter how many accessories you attach, they will not interfere with the zippers in the main compartment. In Sweden, we don't have high mountains, so we go on thru-hikes of about 10 days with a pack like this. Take your time.

. Finally, what is your vision for the future?

Gonz:We will stay the same as we have always been, and this is what we will do. . We want to continue to sell only a carefully selected lineup of products. . In parallel, we would like to work diligently on the development of materials, and for new customers, we would like to pursue their needs.

In the Japanese market, we would like the right consumers to recognize our products over the right amount of time. We are not looking for speed. And someday, although it is a long way from Japan, I hope that you will come to visit Sweden.
