〜PACK FOR LIFE ~ OUTDOOR PRODUCTS

The seeds of business are created by making it thoroughly your own.
Shoko Tatsuzaki (Hotel Producer)

At the age of 23, she has produced five hotels. When talking about Shoko Tatsuzaki, the phrase "not so young..." is often used to describe her. It is true that she has a wealth of experience and a flexible mind, but it is also clear that she has to do a lot of diligent work to come up with ideas. The theme of this project is "PACK FOR LIFE," which is a phrase from Outdoor Products, Inc. that says, "Make a bag for your life" and "Pack for your life. What kind of packing did Mr. Tatsuzaki do to achieve his ideal?

. not to solve a problem , but to find a social issue.

Have you had any "amoeba connections" recently?

Ryuzaki:. It is still in the conceptual stage, but I would like to create a postpartum care facility. I have been exploring the possibility of a hotel ever since the company was founded, and one day I saw an article on my Twitter timeline about a postpartum care facility. The idea was that after childbirth, women would stay for a few weeks to almost a month to have their children taken care of while they received services such as mugwort steaming and pelvic correction to heal their bodies. This service has not yet taken root in Japan, but in East Asian countries such as China, Korea, and Taiwan, it has been accepted by society as a service to support women. . This is exactly what we are offering new value to society based on the business scheme of a hotel, and moreover, I thought that we could do it ourselves.

I was also thinking that I would probably have to give birth in the near future. But in Japan today, there are only two options for how to live after giving birth: relying on one's parents or covering one's own expenses. Furthermore, for those who cannot rely on their parents, they have no choice but to do it on their own. I thought that was a very blocked feeling. It was then that I learned about postpartum care facilities, and I thought that if they became a third option that existed close to me, I could be happy and satisfy someone else who was facing similar challenges.

So the issues you felt in your business and the issues you felt as an individual came together in your mind and led to the idea of a postpartum care facility?

Ryuzaki:Yes, that's right. I call such a sense of challenge "thirst," but I am rarely able to verbalize the thirst I feel for the world from the beginning. Various thirsts are piled up in my mind in a vague state, and they gradually take shape and are verbalized.

Once you have reached the point where you wish you had a postpartum care facility, the next step is to check out existing products and past examples. . Then, I clarify what kind of facility I would like to have. I heard that kimchi is served at Korean postpartum care facilities, but if it were me, I would not be in the mood for kimchi after childbirth.... Then, I would find out what I would want to eat. . Alternatively, I looked into facilities in Japan and found that they cost about 40,000 yen per night. If it were me, how much would I be able to spend if I were to use a postpartum care facility? . I think about it. Then, you can get an idea of the pricing of the facility you would like to operate. ...... By delving into how you feel about something that already exists, you will be able to see more clearly what your thirst is and how to satisfy it.

Ryuzaki:As I thought about postpartum care facilities, the concept of a hotel was expanding in my mind. Before . . I used to think of a hotel as a place where one could try on a lifestyle. For example, at "HOTEL SHE, OSAKA" in Osaka, a record player has been installed in the guest room since the opening. This way, people who are interested in analog records through magazines and SNS can actually listen to and experience the sound. . We thought that a hotel is a place where we can propose a lifestyle through the five senses.

In addition to this, I am beginning to think that a hotel is a space that can offer a new sense of values for the way of life. It is said that "the best way to change your life is to move," but a hotel is like a temporary residence. . That is why we believe that we can propose a new lifestyle, in other words, a new way of living. Postpartum care is one such example.

Japanese women today do not have the habit of taking care of themselves after childbirth. They are exhausted, their pelvises are twisted, and they are in shambles after childbirth, but everyone assumes that they are supposed to put their children first and themselves second. But the truth is, that's not healthy. So, it would be great if we could spread the value that women should take better care of their bodies after childbirth through postpartum care facilities.

What you will see by continuing to make choices.

Tatsuzaki-san's philosophy of expanding the world's sense of values through business seems to be connected to your philosophy as a business owner.

Ryuzaki:Yes . My company's vision for management is to make the world's choices diverse. Rather than being on the side of creating an environment that embraces diversity, our direction is to create one of the diverse molecules by bringing products to the world that have never existed before. . That's why I'm thinking that it would be great if we could operate a hotel with a sharply targeted concept or a postpartum care facility.

I think that what makes you who you are is something that comes into view through repeated choices. Some people have a clear intention from the beginning, saying, "I choose this because this is how I feel," while others may choose unconsciously and then think about why they chose it later. . There are many approaches, but anyway, choices chip away at our identity. If we look for a place where we are comfortable while thinking about what fits us, we may be able to reduce the difficulty of living in society. That is my assumption. . We would like to increase the number of choices for this purpose.

I think that in Japanese society, it is difficult for young people in particular to assert themselves clearly. It's not like "the nail that sticks out gets hammered down.

Ryuzaki:I haven't felt that way very often. Many kind people have supported me and allowed me to run my business. . I don't hesitate to assert myself when I show my values or introduce a sharp product to the world. I also believe that the company itself can embody the company's philosophy of "making the world's choices more diverse" by becoming one of the diverse molecules of society.
