An ambiguous team that produces.

Nihonbashi Kabutocho in Tokyo is known as the site of Japan's first bank and stock exchange. A new complex, K5, will open here on February 1. The building, which has one basement floor to four floors above ground, will house a hotel designed by Swedish design team Claesson Koivisto Rune, the world's first flagship store of Brooklyn Brewery, a craft beer brand from New York, KABI in Meguro, a new restaurant called Caveman, and a restaurant in the area. The new restaurant Caveman, Switch Coffee Tokyo, which is attracting attention as a coffee shop rooted in the community, and the library bar Ao, produced by Kai Tanaka and Sorato Nomura, are just a few of the renowned tenants. In this issue, we asked the three people in charge of the management of "K5" to talk about their thoughts on this facility.

The city changes because of K5 , and K5 changes again in response.

. When I talk to you, I see that you all have no ups and downs. This is true for the three of you, but it is also true for the tenants and all the people involved.

Honma:Everyone is looking at things from the same perspective. It's not like we're superior at all. To put it simply, I always want to work with "good guys. There are no bad guys, of course, but in other words, I want to work with people with whom I am comfortable and whom I like.

Matsui:Everyone is even.

Honma:Oh yes . Everyone is a professional in a different field and usually works independently. . I think it is great that all of these people have come together to participate in this project, that they have a backbone, and that there is some leeway for them to do so.

Matsui:Even though the roles are vague, the responsibilities are clear, and everyone is doing their best. Because I knew that they were serious about what they were doing, I felt that they would be fine even if something went wrong. Therefore, I think a relationship of trust was established early on.

Lastly, what are your expectations after the opening?

Honma:. that a lot of people will come (laughs). . it doesn't matter if they are wearing suits or not, if they have money or not. Of course, business is involved, so there is a kind of target audience. However, that is just our way of making sure that our point of view is not blurred in the creation of this facility.

Matsui:I have been running this far because I wanted to create something that no one has ever seen before, and I want to make it a place where there are always people, a lot of activity, and unique experiences that can only happen here. The same is true for the tenants, the spatial design including sound, and the hotel. I think the combination of these elements has created a place where you can have an experience that can only be had here.

Honma:It would be nice if it became a place where we could get together and have a drink with the three of us when we become grandfathers. I think the shape of the place will change during that time.

Matsui:I'm okay with that, you know, from the very beginning.

Oka:I hope that Kabutocho will become more interesting, and that someone will take advantage of K5's presence here, and whether it is a coffee shop, a restaurant, or a jazz bar, I don't know, but more and more things like that will be established. . Anyway, I would be happy if the town changes as a result of K5. Of course, that will take time. But when it changes, K5 will feel the city and change it. I hope such a cycle will be born.
