The best of old and new. A popular stylist talks about and wears the latest Converse models.
Old meets New.

A good combination of old and new.
Popular stylists talk about and wear the latest Converse models.

Everyone has worn a pair of "Converse" sneakers at least once. While they have firmly established themselves as a standard, they have actually improved with each passing season by adding new details. We asked stylists Yuta Kaji, Arata Kobayashi, and Toshi Katagai to try on the latest three models, which look classic but are also easy to wear.

CASE 02_ARATA KOBAYASHI ×
JACK PURCELL SUEDE SLIP-ON RH

I want adult men to wear them.

. Please tell us about your history with "Converse" so far.

I bought my first pair when I was in elementary school. I have worn dozens of pairs, but especially when I was an assistant, I wore them every day. At the rate of one pair a year. I remember when "Lost Hills" was selling made in USA All-Stars for 7 or 8,000 yen . At first, I wore pink high-cut and yellow-green low-cut All-Stars, and in my third year, my master bought me a pair of black All-Stars, a collaboration model between N. Hollywood and Converse Addict, and I remember that my master, my sister, and I wore the same sneakers together. I remember wearing the same sneakers with my master, sister, and apprentice.

What is your favorite Converse model in particular?

. I have a special attachment to the "Jack Purcell," which I wore in high school under the influence of Hiroshi Fujiwara and Jun Murakami.

What is your image of Jack Purcell?

. I had the image that "Jack Purcell" was worn by people with a high level of sensitivity. Everyone else was wearing All-Stars, but I was wearing Jack Purcell. (Laughs.) I wore them with vintage jeans because they were different and cool.

. This time around, the new model is not only a slip-on version, but also features some improved details.

The insoles are amazing! I remember when it used to be popular to buy a pair of "All-Stars" that were a bit large and wear them with an insole (laughs). Also, the material is great; now that I'm in my 40s, I sometimes find it difficult to wear sneakers that are too straight-forward for my style. But suede sneakers with a mature look are very fresh. They are short and elegant, and I would like mature men to wear them.

Beautiful with dress shirts
. style, and haziness with the feet.

Converse shoes are easy to match with a clean style, so I think they would go easily with a set-up, for example. It is possible to wear casual shoes all over, but I think it might be a bit too much of a match. I usually wear jeans or military pants, so I'd like to add a dress shirt from "Chalbe" to give it a slightly more elegant look.

Sharply reborn,
Jack Purcell for adults.

They assist in comfortable walking, to the extent that even Mr. Arata Kobayashi, who actually wore them, was surprised.

This detail, which is a must for enthusiasts of yesteryear, has also been followed closely.
